Maybe if i understood italian, or if opera had subtitles i could enjoy it but i like to know what the fuck is going on when i'm watching some sort of story driven media.
Most televised operas have subtitles, and it's certainly commonplace to have a screen showing the dialogue in actual performances, so I'm not sure what you're on about.
Check out Chandos Operas in English for pretty decent translations that are sung in our fair language. Tosca's pretty good.
