Oldmacho - 2008-12-23

Five stars for "clean coal solution" pun.

NoCode - 2008-12-23

I get it. Lol.

NoCode - 2008-12-23

Fuuuuuck! that is some depressing shit.

cognitivedissonance - 2008-12-23

I love the many and varied hits of Tennessee Ernie Coal Sludge Flood.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2008-12-23

This was one county over from where I live. Before the comments of Wal-Marts and rednecks, I have to interject that Knoxville is close to Oak Ridge National Laboratory which was home of the Manhattan project.

It's beautiful country through here with a lot of scenic mountains and trails if you ignore the tourist t(c)raps of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Sure we have our share of idiots, but there are some pretty smart people in the area as well.

That aside. This is really depressing and according to KnoxNews, residents don't ever see a recovery for the land. Plus, this shit is eventually going to make it through the Tennessee Valley watershed and probably the Hiwasee as well.

Not to mention, my TVA bill will probably go even higher because I'll probably be helping to pay for the cleanup.

don't worry guys I checked and the Sunsphere is still okay

I'd also point out that while we have ORNL, Huntsville AL has Redstone Arsenal AND Marshall Space Flight Center and Slidell LA has a rocket test center and both of those cities don't even have as good a radio station as Knoxville. Proximity to major research centers is not a necessary indicator for cultural growth.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2008-12-23

We use the Sunsphere to blind all eastbound traffic for a good 2 hours each afternoon.

RockBolt - 2008-12-23

I hope those engineers end up in jail

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-12-24

This was really underreported by the media. Environmentally this was just as much of an impact as Exxon Valdez, but didn't really get much recognition. Hardly a surprise from this administration.

baleen - 2008-12-24

I think this is a bit worse than Valdez, not just in the sheer amount of pollution but the permanent impact it will have in the areas it effects, not to mention freshwater supplies.

I don't really understand why this isn't over front pages across America though, I guess peoples' priorities are a little fucked right now.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-12-25

This was noted as one of the most underreported stories by Project Censored, which is where I originally found out about it.

The devastation is sickening.
