Last time I posted 808 State I got one starred. I shall spare you the debilitating trauma and humiliation.
Don't worry about it.
There are some juveniles that think taste is absolute and somewhat objective. I was perhaps one of them. I was raised on a diet of Floyd and Metallica, had my head opened by college DJing, but didn't feel electronica till the ripe age of 23 when I bought Orbital's brown album on a whim. There are lots of genres that (14 years later), I expect I'll never understand: low-fi indie, death metal, popular hip-hop and top-40. When I hear something new on 73q I don't have any compass points for, I'm very wary of rating. I just don't have the cultural background to appreciate it.
As for 808 State, they were briefly important, as an entry level for their genre. But as intermediaries (between popular music and the evolving electronica undergroud), they developed little enduring affection. The genres progressed, and onlike their contemporaneous peers, 808 State either disolved or digressed too early from popular taste. For the artists, there is a huge element of luck to a lasting career.
