Now I want to watch this film.

Skee-ball!

Not really porn. If my memory serves me correctly, there may be briefly exposed breasts, but the sexuality is limited to a scene with a two foot animatronic tongue emerging from the surface of a door.

I have a DVD copy obtained several years ago from a fellow on Ebay that specializes in out of print 70s and 80s porn. Its a high quality VHS dub, but I was unable to remove a high pitched screeching artifact/copy protection from the audio track when I attempted to convert it to Xvid avi for sharing.

There is an active torrent at monova.org though.

It's not a porn film. It was reviewed in Entertainment Weekly! There was a very brief resurgence of Midnight Movies in '89/90 and this & Frankenhooker were the best ones.

Around the same tme, Rinse Dream made a pair of porn films that resembled 'Dr. Caligari' very much, tho': 'Party Doll a Go Go' Parts 1 & 2 starring Jeanna Fine and Madison Stone of all people.

For those delving into this cultural nook, Stephen Sayadian (aka Rinse Dream) directed 3 films written by Jerry Stahl (see "Permanent Midnight" for HIS story): Night Dreams (1981), Café Flesh (1982), and Dr. Caligari (1989). The first 2 are surreal porn that defy attempts at masturbation. Dr. Caligari wouldn't rate on Skinemax, and was pseudonomously written near the end of Jerry Stahl's heroin addiction (along with three episodes of the family TV show "Alf").

Made by the people responsible for Cafe Flesh. My guess is that they washed out of film school and ended up in the porn industry. There's lots of crazy blocking, set, and dialogue ideas in here - it's definitely worth a look, though the reach FAR exceeds the grasp.

Oh and Gus? He's got secret needles in his pokey-globes.

This thing is pure genius, and succeeds immensely, though you wouldn't think it. Rights slightly higher than Forbidden Zone but slightly lower than 5000 Fingers of Dr. T on the weirdness scale.

It's great to see the remake retained the romantic longing of the original film. This was obviously NECESSARY.
