Does anyone remember the Usagi Yobimbo comic from the 80s?Wasn't there a Zatoichi animal who used his nose in place of his eyes?Then his nose was cut off and he replaced it with a wooden one tied with a string?Am i imagining this?

I have to give this 2 stars because I saw the movie right after I watched the original Zatoichi with Shintaro Katsu, and this really kind of blows by comparison. What the fuck is with all the CG? Way to miss the point, japan.

a flaming monkey - 2008-09-10 In an interview Teakeshi said that he did not want to emulate Katsu in his performance, because he's a legend that could never be lived up to. So there you go.
Takeshi is certainly a very different Zatoichi, but I think no less impressive. Plus, I love the absolute oddness of this film and the simple plot, because a lot of the old films got a bit convoluted.

Fine that it's not one of the old ones; not sure I'm sold on the plots being that convoluted in the series, but I've seen about half a dozen and they seem pretty formulaic (which is super ok with me as ICHIIIII is so sexy). There's certainly a decent variance in the names of the smouldering shrieky women who fall in love with him and the number of babies he has to rescue, though.
Uh, about this clip, though: what the fuck? Is this just what he thinks about all day? In the movie, he's just hangin' out with the good guys and imagining chopping dudes up. Of course they don't fight back; the only difficulty was fucking up with his sword (that and the pouring rain). I saw it as one of those dreams where you suddenly find that you can't run away, or your special Problem Solving Device doesn't work. However: huh?

a flaming monkey - 2008-09-14 Yeah, I guess the old one's basically the same plot, but I meant convoluted in the sense that there were so many twists and turns, before he got to the real boss. Did you ever see the film with Mifune (Yojimbo) in it? That was an utter mind fuck to me.
