OBAMA

HASSELHOFF

OBAMA

HASSELHOFF

anvill - 2008-07-30

This cannot be real. This has to be some kind of backdoor, "this is something the RNC could actually do" parody.

Click through to the youtube user and aw Christ, it's real.

Xenocide - 2008-07-30

A Titanic reference? Really?

REALLY?

Even for Republicans that's sad.

garcet71283 - 2008-07-30

5 stars for utter crap. And if the Germans like him...he must be good...right?

-2 for totally missing the opportunity to point out that Obama canceled a visit to wounded soldiers in a military hospital in favor of a photo-op at a basketball court...

+1 because GERMANS LOVE DAVID HASSELHOFF

StanleyPain - 2008-07-30

You're joking about the hospital thing, right? You do know that's a right-wing talking point meme thing, yes? Obama did in fact visit wounded troops in the Iraq Green Zone, just not at that particular hospital. And he did so without any major press coverage. And as for the basketball thing, there were hundreds of American soldiers there, it was in Kuwait. He also went to Walter Reed prior to the trip. So apparently not visiting ANY soldiers is better than actually visiting SOME of them.

baleen - 2008-07-30

This makes absolutely no sense at all. How is this supposed to harm Obama?

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-30

Haha, you poor naive FOOL. Europeans? Europeans that endorse MARX? Are endorsing Obama, and you don't see what the problem is. Are you so out of touch?

baleen - 2008-07-30

I understand the marx part, but the rest of it is just so random and disjointed. It seems to be an attack on the success of his Berlin speech, but it fails.

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-30

On that we definitely agree, it truly does. I think it leans a wee bit too heavy on xenophobia, it just assumes you will be rabid with hate at the support of the Germans. Which even in my jaded wordview is probably not true of a large percentage of Americans.

This "political parody viral internet video for the ages of 18-24" is actually an intrinsically valuable cultural artifact.

By tracing the hackneyed and tired memes thoughtlessly strewn about in this clutching death rattle of an attempt to capture the hearts of the young, we now have solid evidence that the Republican Party's conceptual grasp of youth culture is approximately eleven years ("Titanic", 1997) to fourteen years (Norm MacDonald's "Germans and Hasselhoff" routine, 1994) behind the curve in an arena where trends emerge and die within a matter of months and weeks.

Thank you for this clarification, Grand Old Party!

Randroid - 2008-07-30

Hey, we're "hip" and "down with it". I mean the youths of today, "dog".

Knuckles - 2008-07-30

Who let the dogs out. Who, who.

Pillager - 2008-07-30

Word.

RomancingTrain - 2008-07-30

This is Dukakis in a tank bad.

Stog - 2008-07-30

Yes, rest of the world, the Republicans are this crazy.

Stog - 2008-07-30

*Neoconservative Republicans

glendower - 2008-07-30

if this is real it just expresses the GOP's vast jealousy of Obama's incredibly successful overseas trip. while obama grabbed headlines all week about his meetings with heads of state, mccain was campaigning in grocery stores.

petep - 2008-07-30

THESE ARE THE DOWN HOME VALUES THAT WE LOVE, DON'T YOU SEE.

godot - 2008-07-30

The choice is between 4 more years of modern Nashville country or some Euro House music. I've voting Euro House.

godot - 2008-07-30

Er, I'M voting Euro House.

GOP, try harder next time. You are a parody of yourself.

glasseye - 2008-07-30

Hey Republicans, keep on sailing that FAILboat, you're doing fine.

petep - 2008-07-30

differences aside, the che guevara guy makes me want to go high-five a republican

maybe we could sit in deep chairs and drink scotch afterwards

IrishWhiskey - 2008-10-05

Its rather clever. Finally a GOP ad that simply can't be parodied. The Daily Show can try to mock it all they like, but after that "king of the world" reference, there's nothing left to do.

I can only hope McCain's sliding poll numbers drive him back to the "celebrity"strategy.
