People criticize the US for having too many patriotic songs that involve either war or God. To them I say at least none of ours are about the glory of a homeless man who commits suicide after stealing a sheep.

To be fair, the US national anthem is about England kicking our asses, and the music was intentionally written to be nearly impossible to sing (but good on electric guitar).

"And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda", especially the Pogues' version, get me right there every time I hear it.
