You have to love the heroic music. And who would have thought that less than a decade later, the internet would enable us all to act like homicidal assholes.

jangbones - 2008-06-17

Falling Down was a bad and uninteresting movie, boring, clumsy, and shallow, but not to any interesting degree.

Why do I see reference to this movie every six months? What is the fascination? Why Falling Down and not The Hard Way or Cool Runnings or Blue Steel or any one of a million below-average, uninteresting nineties films?

zatojones - 2008-06-17

THINK about it!

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-17

Because I can.

Now why haven't you people voted up my damn Iraq Party Van videos?

Spike Jonez - 2008-06-17

Because Falling Down is amazing and MIchael Douglas is awesome in it.

Corman's Inferno - 2008-06-17

Because it's a good snapshot of the death of the American dream. And also "I'm an American and you're a sick asshole!"

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-17

That clip's in the hopper too Corman. Please vote. I'll return the favor; I'll mail the money back, honestly! I haven't had anything voted up in three days! Well, I... I mean except for this. AW FUCK IT, C'MON MAN, just gimme some votes! GIMME ONE OF THOSE BAGS!!

Desidiosus - 2008-06-17

I apologize to j for voting it down, but I just hate this movie. It's one of the few I walked out of. To me it's just the perfect Republican / libertarian fantasy. "The damn furriners are out to get you, so load up and shoot to kill." I'd imagine Billy Buttsex must jack off to this every night before he goes to bed.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-17

AND YET EVERYONE FUCKING LOVES CHARLES BRONSON.

Q.

TO THE E.

TO THE GODDAMN D.

Camonk - 2008-06-17

Desid--Dise--Dieseldosus? Anyhow, by walking out you pretty much missed the entire point of the movie, which is that he's not an admirable hero standing up for everything American.

plaid_knight - 2008-06-30

>Why do I see reference to this movie every six months?

Okay, while there are better normal people breaking down in the face of crumbling society movies (Taxi Driver, Joe, and Hardcore come to mind), Falling Down delivers a few really wonderful hits during its run.

The golf course and the traffic jam/construction scene are the ones that really made me smile.

Tom Collins - 2011-02-18

Counterpoint: I love this psycho and his uncompromising soundtrack.

Tom Collins - 2011-05-13

As in, it's always hilarious in the way 90s of its genre is. It's a shining beacon of repressed white suburban male.

boner - 2008-06-17

Drew Carey kicks ass

Tom Collins - 2011-05-13

I have been up a long time!

Lothar - 2008-06-17

This movie is a part of a college class called "masculine studies" (at Berkeley I think). The idea of the class is that men are testy neanderthals that need to be civilized by the superior intelligence of women.

jmags - 2008-06-17

The fact that people like this movie shows that there is a need for such a class.

FABIO2 - 2008-06-17

That's roughly 25% of ALL college courses, probably more like 60% at Berkeley.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-17

FABIO isn't lying or being a punk or trolling this time. I'd say Humboldt State University is about a 42.0% over all, personal experience and all...

RATE YOUR UNIVERSITY ON THE 0-100% BULLSHIT CUNTFAGOSITY SCALE!

Hooper_X - 2008-06-18

I don't think you actually read the course catalog, sir.

Mad Struggle - 2008-06-17

Seems like I wasn't the only one thinking "Why isn't Falling down on here?"

I love this scene. Specifically how he doesn't even flinch while being shot at and how everyone clears a path as he leaves. Also, his balls are huge.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-06-17

Tags fixed.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-06-17

Maybe he's going to take those guns to a recycling center.

Sudan no1 - 2008-06-17

This movie gets 5 stars forever for capturing angry white male syndrome so perfectly and unapologetically.

Stog - 2008-06-17

Michael Douglas telling homies to take some fucking shooting lessons is why I like this movie so much.

garcet71283 - 2008-06-17

5 stars not for the movie (though I love it) but for the posters who think that by 1 and 2 starring the movie they are being progressive against something.

Hooper_X - 2008-06-18

This movie is awesome because it's more or less what your average Fox News viewer thinks about while masturbating.

It's *awesomer* because they completely fail to get the actual point of the thing. This guy isn't a hero cleaning up the streets, he's a fucking douchebag who's mad because his entire white suburban asshole way of life is going the way of the dinosaur and he focuses his frustration on poor people and brown people and high school kids instead of the people who are actually responsible for his situation.

AND THEN HE GETS KILLED BY ANOTHER ANGRY WHITE GUY.

For a similar phenomenon, check out the influence of "Scarface" on the last 10-odd years of mainstream rap.
