When I was playing the ching chong level in Gex: Enter the Gecko I kept getting the strongest flashback of this show, but all I could remember was elements of this intro and that in one of the episodes Daniel takes the girl to the fair and she gets chili on her chin from a chili dog, and he has a flashback to when he took another girl to the fair and the same thing happened.

Oh god, I remember the first 3d platformer of the Gex series. That game was awful.

Yellow Lantern - 2008-03-26

Holy crap I remember THAT EXACT SAME episode, chili dog and all. I wonder what it would be like if my brain could be used for good and not for useless.

Vulcan nerve pinch followed by a playful tweak of the nose. Surely, Pat Morita's potential is truly realized in animation.

Well, of course they're going to blow up your battleship if you paint a target on it.

The best part of this show was the incredibly contrived ways the magic pagoda escaped their grasp at the end of each episode. One time a whale swallowed it.

RandomFerret - 2008-03-27

Wait, wait. That was actually the plot? I thought that was just something they put in the opening as a metaphor!

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2008-03-26

That's an awful lot of thumbs up signs.

Also: KARATE KID (doo-doo-de-doo-doo-doo-de-doot-doot!)

Was this one of those CBS one-season wonders?

eatenmyeyes - 2008-03-26

NBC. I think it came in the same batch as Saved by the Bell and Captain N.

Mr Miyagi swinging like Tarzan. A small 87 Chevy Nova capable of flight. Daniel-san surfing a nuclear torpedo.

Screwtape - 2008-03-26

I vaguely remember this show. Thank god its only vaguely.

snothouse - 2008-03-26

:36 WHAT. PS MR. M NEEDS TO WINK MORE

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-26

I like the little dance Daniel did on the torpedo.

zatojones - 2008-03-26

Jesus what the fuck was that?

Kibblesmith - 2008-03-26

Mock all you want, I know what I was expecting from the phrase "Karate Kid: The Animated Series," but that shit looks TIGHT.

Especially compared to other knee-jerk licenses and the animation quality of, say, anything to come out of Ruby Spears.

Camonk - 2008-03-26

Sure, but don't forget that after the intro, they would have used at most five frames of animation for three minutes, and nothing--NOTHING--would ever explode. Oh and a three second fight somewhere in between eating chili dogs and winking.

DrVital - 2008-03-26

What is the sick fascination with world travel that all these shows have?

futurebot - 2008-03-26

I love the completely unnecessary flip at :25. And that I remembered the theme music note for note.

revdrew - 2008-03-26

Man, all this shit happened between Daniel going to Okinawa and coming back to the US? That's crazy.

Endoris - 2008-05-16

I have never seen any Karate Kid movies, but I have seen this intro to the cartoon at least once. The "Karate Kid!" repetition is the only thing I know about Karate Kid, besides something about cobras and waxing cars.
-1 for my troubled, un-Karate Kid'd past. +4 for...well, I dunno.
