I don't really have a whole lot to say except god I hate my country and come close to crying nearly every single day about how horrible things are there. Hah hah, that's not true--it's all been scabbed over by now.

Stog - 2008-03-12

There are no words.

baleen - 2008-03-12

Republicans do not deserve to hold office for at least twenty more years. How can people laugh when there are soldiers dying?

revdrew - 2008-03-12

How can they sleep while our beds are burning?

Ersatz - 2008-03-12

Sputtering outrage! Worst offense in the history of the planet! &c. &c. &c.

So Keith Olbermann is the liberal Rush Limbaugh, with paper-thin arguments and no ability or willingness to entertain thought outside of a narrow, doctrinaire interpretation of the party platform? I thought Al Franken had that job.

grimcity - 2008-03-12

Al's busy running for a Senate seat, mommy.

Anyway, Rachel Maddow is awesome... she runs a pretty damned good show. If I were a chick, I'd totally gay off for her.

baleen - 2008-03-12

Olbermann isn't really that amazing to me. I don't pray at the altar of any pundit. Who cares about liberal Rush Limbaugh? What is outrageous is Bush's little performance; surely you must agree with that.

futurebot - 2008-03-12

You didn't three-star this; you must be some kind of partisan extremist. No one is allowed to have categorical opinions about anything.

Stog - 2008-03-12

So where's Olbermann's 'Barack the Magic Negro' equivalent?

Cheese - 2008-03-12

Don't forget 'McNabb would be a nobody if he weren't black.'

StanleyPain - 2008-03-12

Yes because if you presents the honest facts about the blatant failures and illegality of the Bush Administration, you're totally blindly supporting a single party with paper thin, fact-and-truth-based, arguments!

Curses, where are the REAL journalists??? The ones who won't make Bush look bad, and therefore won't be supporting any kind of single minded party line???

Xenocide - 2008-03-12

Sometimes Keith does get a little worked up, it's true. Occasionally he crosses the line from righteous anger to self-righteous sermonizing.

That said, the "liberal Limbaugh" meme is a brand of idiocy so extreme I don't think even Bush would buy it. Rush makes it his life's mission to bring the level of discourse as low as he can possibly take it. He namecalls, fabricates, and talks to his audience like they're very special third graders. When has Keith been caught making things up on the spot? When has he said something racist? Where are his myriad inaccuracies?

When has he tried to lower the discourse? If anything, he's tried to raise it. With the exception of Jim Lehrer, he's the only American TV news anchor left, liberal or conservative, who actually talks to his viewers like they're adults who are capable of understanding words with more than two syllables and references to events which are more than six months old.

Rush doesn't even consider himself a real journalist or pundit anymore. He says he's for "entertainment only." Comparing Olbermann to Rush is like comparing Walter Cronkite to Kent Brockman. One's a real, live, journalist, and the other is a goddamn cartoon. And if you can't tell the difference, so are you.

Albuquerque Halsey - 2008-03-12

What he said^

baleen - 2008-03-13

My point was that the comparison of Olberman to Limbaugh was meaningless in the context of this clip, which is clearly about the disgusting behavior of the president at that dinner with the plutocrats. Since Ersatz is a Republican, I was hoping he would maybe acknowledge that Olbermann was justified in his disgust, but no such luck.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2008-03-13

The Limbaugh analogy falls on it's face when you see this

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0308/Olbermann_rips_Hil lary.html

Would Rush ever go after a Republican with such ferocity? No, he wouldn't - and I say that as an ex ditto head.

PoeTV politics FTW.

Dinky Patterson - 2008-03-13

Scrotum, you've never heard Rush Limbaugh rip on John McCain?

Stog - 2008-03-12

fuck, wrong Limbaugh thing

I meant: Where's Olbermann's attempt to discredit a supposedly 'fake' disease in a hilarious attempt to reinforce a talking point?

davinciclone - 2008-03-12

I don't know which is sicker: that he had to rehearse that or that he should have rehearsed it more.

Roachbud - 2008-03-12

Dubya can get a gig at the Gran Olde Opry next January

Screwtape - 2008-03-12

The point isn't that Bush is a callous, incompetent dick, that's been well established.

What's horrible about this video is that 600 pieces of press corps shit laughed their asses off. Fuck the Washington press.

Roachbud - 2008-03-12

There's plenty that don't go - like the New York Times and Bob Woodward

citrusmirakel - 2008-03-12

Really? The horrible part I can't get past is the awful singing.

Dinky Patterson - 2008-03-12

He officially doesn't give two shits and a yahoo anymore.

jangbones - 2008-03-12

Yeah, laugh now, it won't be so funny when he's singing about invading Iran this summer.

ihounokyaku - 2008-03-12

That song changed my life.

Pacobird - 2008-03-12

Come on, people. It's the press core dinner.

Pacobird - 2008-03-12

To wit, the President is obliged to make fun of himself and the press is obliged to laugh. If anything, the most relevant thing about the press core dinner as it relates to Bush's presidency is how much scrutiny it's drawn these past few years.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-03-12

NO, the president (and anyone else in office) should never be allowed to have press-corps relations, because the purpose of the news agencies is to undermine any sort of legitimate authority figures. It helps keep them in business.

And by the way, it's totally insulting for a President to mock his detractors and their efforts at an entertaining dinner for the purpose of entertainment.

Stog - 2008-03-12

"because the purpose of the news agencies is to undermine any sort of legitimate authority figures"

Your world is filled with caricatures and living strawmen

Roachbud - 2008-03-12

Billy's not entirely wrong, he just phrased it like a wannabe fascist troll would. The purpose of the press is to provide a check on authority.

fatatty - 2008-03-12

Bush: "I fucked up a bunch, broke the law and got thousands of people killed, but I don't give a shit, what are you gonna do about it? Oh right, nothing! I'm the president so fuck you!"

Press: "yaaaay!" clap clap clap gag on W cock "Tell us how far beneath you we are! Does it even matter that we exist?! Who cares! We're in the same room as him! yaaaay!"

Hooper_X - 2008-03-12

The Gridiron Club dinner always has had shit like this. Presidents are supposed to show up, make fun of themselves, and be a good sport. The only difference now is that people have cell phones and youtube & etc in order to bring stuff out with them. We don't know what, say, FDR did at the ones where he spoke. For all we know, Herbert Hoover turned up in blackface and FDR had a hilllllarious routine about playing soccer with Winston Churchill.

That being said, the whole concept of reporters and political types coming together in a big mutual circlejerk is kind of dubious, when you think about it.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-12

The press has never been respectable. Ever. Any examples you can bring up are exceptions to the rule, provided that you are right to bring them up in the first place.

Lurchi - 2008-03-12

Laughing in your face, spitting on your grave.

Aelric - 2008-03-12

I've got a fairly hold nothing sacred sense of humor. i can laugh at kitten videos or rape jokes, don't matter to me as long as it's funny (which this isn't). i also have a strong commitment to the ideal of free speech. anyone should be allowed to say anything at any time, even the idiot man-child in the white house.

so, i really have no problem with this. sing all you want, asshole, your three minute just means you are three minutes closer to getting the fuck out of our lives.

Cinnamon Imperialist - 2008-03-12

And christ, Olbermann's voice. It makes me want to punch things, so heavy it is with smugness.

charmlessman - 2008-03-12

Looks like GW has found something he's good at... OK, better than he is at being president.

Hooker - 2008-03-12

I'm guessing Olbermann wasn't invited.

andru strange - 2008-03-12

you are all very lame for disliking olberman for a clip of bush singing.

kingarthur - 2008-03-13

Much right wing failure in the comments here attempting to make "the left Limbaugh" or the "left media" look "undermining" and "unpatriotic". Let me know when I've used enough republican/conservative official buzzwords and strawmen here.

That said, Bush is just joking. About spending millions of dollars in a fruitless war, lying about most everything, helping out his buddies and cronies and their buddies and cronies, and allowing a few hundred citizens to die through his own budget cuts and incompetence. But you should all just politiely laugh and let the Yale and Harvard grads joke. Maybe they'll choke on the caviar.
