This is much, much more impressive than the ones made by Connecticut kids in the fall of '83.

drcrypt - 2008-01-03

On the off chance this isn't a joke, I'd love to see a link to those.

Stopheles - 2008-01-03

I'm sorry to say that they're buried somewhere, maybe in my parents' basement, maybe in the basement of a guy I haven't been in touch with since the mid-90s. But seriously, they were much more along the lines of a bunch of 5th-graders thinking they were being REALLY HILARIOUS.

zatojones - 2008-01-03

this is hard core. do you know how hard it is to find a desert in Massachusetts?

also Greedo shot first

dr_rock - 2008-01-03

This is just awesome.

Also, how the hell did they get every single shot right? Did they have the film available for reference? I mean, they didn't have VCRs yet, right? Hell they even got the opening "long long time ago" font correct. And what kind of computer did they use for the title screen?

I bet these kids went to see Star Wars in the theater every single day for a year.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-06

Maybe they went to the Rhode Island Desert?

This is amazing. So much time, energy, and ingenuity. It also makes you realize how much more impressive low budget film looks as opposed to low budget video.
So, by "1977", you mean "1980"? (I was going to do a complete nerd-out by saying there were toys used that weren't made in '77)

drcrypt - 2008-01-03

I was going by their website, where they basically just say they started in 1977, and I assumed that was when they finished it.

By the way, this actually is just a small slice of their whole movie, which was 50 minutes long.

Hailey2006 - 2008-01-03

It needs an upbeat piano score accompanying it!

fluffy - 2008-01-03

This is much, much more impressive than the one made by California adults from '74-'77.

Calamity Jon - 2008-01-03

God, I love how much it looks like a 20's silent film. "The Perils of Leia."

FABIO2 - 2008-01-03

Better than 99% of college student films.

Jesus it hurts just to think about how much work this took a group of kids.

charmlessman - 2008-01-03

That was amazingly impressive.
The film scratches for lasers. Vader looking like a water baby. Han was about 12. But every time a new scene started I was amazingly impressed with how much effort they put into recreating everything. Especially during the cantina scene. So many aliens!!

charmlessman - 2008-01-03

Oh, and also: WAY better than Phantom Menace.

boner - 2008-01-03

Obi Wan is played by Tim Conway, cool!

sosage - 2008-01-03

Even the kids know Han shot first.

rulestein - 2008-01-03

Not worth of 5 stars because it looks fake.

snothouse - 2008-01-03

Fake like "made now", or fake like "done on digital, converted into fake film", or fake like "Kevin Smith and Michel Gondry's baby was given a duffel bag of cash to create a faux-low budget opus"?
