I own this. It's an amazing documentary.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2007-12-14

Why do you hate America?

garcet71283 - 2007-12-14

Amazing. The military has to contract private firms to supply themselves for a war. This is such a surprise. After all, the military has always made its own equipment. They never had to turn to civilian infrastructure to help them wage war. No sir, this is such a shock. Gasp.

Aelric - 2007-12-14

granted, these movies state the obvious, but do bear in mind that chances are you are probably a relatively informed person compared to the nor, no matter what side you agree with. most folks really have no clue how far it all goes. that and the folks that do watch this already know, so what is the point? preaching to the choir is highly worthless.

although my biggest problem is not that is states the obvious, but that it all still comes off as a big "BU$H $UCKS!!!! BUILDING 7!!!" kinda liberal fuck fest. if we could present this shit without throwing in so much opinion, i think it would have more success, and maybe someone besides liberals would watch this.

Roachbud - 2007-12-14

That's not the suprising part of this documentary, it's highlighting how much control the defense contractors have over our democracy. Even the most liberal Congressmen appropriate money for multi-billion dollar killing machines because they put factories up in every Congressional district in the country. We spend more money on defense than everything else in the normal budget (minus social security).

This didn't happen before WWII, the military only built itself up then to fight wars then dismantled itself, now we have to go to war periodically to keep KBR afloat. It's fucked.

Billy Buttsex - 2007-12-14

Hey-- Garcet, you're right. I mean, this is all kinda common sense, but for someone who doesn't pay a lot of attention, seeing how the machine works can be a little bit of a shock. I remember when I first started reading stuff about this in college, it totally scared the shit out of me.

It's good info, but I agree with Aleric: this film's kinda preaching to the choir, and isn't really persuasive with the conservative crowd.

dancingshadow - 2007-12-14

Agreeing with Roachbud, the point of the film is that the same private firms that profit from war also run the country. The wars the USA fights are not in the citizens own best interest. They are simply the best way to funnel public money in to private hands. Money that should be invested in the population via schools, heath, police and other public services instead go to a small number of people who just make war.

Maybe the film didn't shock you garcet, but if something doesn't change, USA will be sucked dry.

Aelric - 2007-12-14

unfortunately, the easy bet is on getting sucked dry. i've said it before, enjoy your time and don't have kids. this planet is fucked.

Camonk - 2007-12-14

The point of this film is an intercontinental warhead without a GPS beacon on it. You are a missile defense shield test.

Aelric - 2007-12-14

the lack of GPS in that situation makes me wonder how you mean your analogy. you mean the movie will get past me and to the people who will do more than nod and think "yep, thought so"? well then, by all means, don't let me stand in the way. i'm merely explaining that it would be alot more effective shown to people who aren't wearing blue.

or maybe it was a complement? or had nothing to do with me? who know, you kids with your GPS metaphors and your make out parties.
