That's only one interpretation of the meaning of Zionism.
Walter Laqueur's History of Zionism is the authority on the entire issue, being the only book which takes you through the foundations of "Zionism" and all the different philosophies and individuals that influenced it.
The idea that Zionism is associated with the political state known as Israel means that the loudest and most aggressive of these schools of thought has won, but there are many other ways of interpreting the philosophy of Zionism, and some are not of a political nature at all.
