To this day, Beethoven's fifth is "Nobody's home" to me.

Also, "Boogie Woogie" gets no article, but it's "The Rap."

Smellvin - 2007-10-03

I actually used to have the song George used for his answering machine. I played it straight from the episode and shouted my name over "George."

Smellvin - 2007-10-03

I forgot to mention that people used to actually call me just to listen to my answering machine message.

Innocent Bystander - 2007-10-03

The "Nobodys hooomme, nobodys hooomme" was featured in the Simpsons one time.

The rap one was funky fresh.

Pandatronic - 2007-10-03

This is actually really cute.

As an aside, I used to know a guy who paid George Lowe (Space Ghost) to record a message for his answering machine.

poopskin - 2007-10-03

My parents still have this.

bang to buck ratio - 2007-10-03

I do not own an answering machine. I don't even have a land line. But I would call that 800 number immediately if there was even the slightest chance there'd be someone on the other end who was able to sell this tape to me.

boner - 2007-10-03

If only the Mr. Belvedere Fun Kit included an answering machine tape.

crote - 2007-10-03

The Rap.

athodyd - 2007-10-03

This was completely dead to me until The Rap.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2007-10-03

Oh Christ I remember this.

All we need now is the old Freedom Rock commercial to complete the circle.

StanleyPain - 2007-10-03

I remember those days when answering machines at consumer level first became reality and everyone thought this shit was the wittiest thing one could possibly do with their machine. Remember when virtually everyone you called tried to do something "funny" with their messages?

zatojones - 2007-10-03

I'm five starring this before I even watch because I saw this commercial so often I remember the goddamn words. I'll test myself.

"Just wait for the beep. You gotta leave ya name, leave ya number"

zatojones - 2007-10-03

Holy shit I remember some useless stuff.

Frank Rizzo - 2007-10-03

Id pay gooooood fucking money for a recording of "believe or not... george... isnt at home please leave a mesaaaaaaaaaaaage at the beep.... I must be out.... or Id pick up the phone.... where could I be? Believe it or not.. IM NOT HOME!!!!" without the background laughter.

coprolalia - 2007-10-03

This must have been a great shortcut to figure out which people you didn't want to know anymore.

hornung - 2007-10-03

my friends had Dan Patrick from sportscenter on their machine during college.
he grew up near them or something.

my family had an earnest p worrel tape i bought on the machine for a while.

other funny thing is they re-used a tape of eddie murphy standup with the no erase tab taped over as our answering machine tape to record incoming calls. my family could be cheap sometimes.

Billy the Poet - 2007-10-03

They wanted 15 United States, 1980's dollars for seven 30-second answering machine messages? If you people are still alive somewhere, fuck you.

Frank Rizzo - 2007-10-04

"15 United States, 1980's dollars"

x - 2007-10-03

The Answering Machine Zone.
The ANSWERING MACHINE Zone.

Whoa.

Blaise - 2007-10-03

+1 - Just as lame as it was then.

+2 - I can't say I've never continued singing the "wait for the beep" rap after the commercial had ended.

Evilhead - 2007-10-04

1,000 stars for THE RAP.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2007-10-05

I am so glad this existed.

Testicles of Doom - 2007-10-05

OH FUCK YES.

The Rap has laid dormant in my brain for 20 god damned years.
