How does he make himself feel so much better then CNN by mentioning that he didn't hammer them, without catching the fact that his entire rant is hammering CNN?

Caminante Nocturno - 2007-10-07

Paranoia and pompousness do not make a pleasant combination. I can't believe how quickly he goes from indignant to self-congratulatory. Bailing that, "Slime Machine" sounds like a toy 10-year-old me would love.

IrishWhiskey - 2007-10-07

Media Matters provides full transcripts and video/audio clips so that people can judge the context themselves, something I note O'Reilly fails to do.

There's two classic O'Reilly assumptions going on here that he constantly falls back on: The first is that anyone criticizing him is only doing it for ratings, as clearly nothing in the world could be more popular than discussing Bill O'Reilly.
Second is the idea that having better ratings means he must be putting out a better quality product than everyone else. Like reality shows and Jerry Springer I guess.

"Of course this is all nonsense and we usually ignore it..."
Hah. Ha ha ha. Hahahahaha.

Konversekid - 2007-10-07

It doesn't really matter, he is building his ego. And personally I wouldn't watch anyone on Fox if their ego wasn't through the roof and they weren't assholes. So he justifies him self being an asshole and we watch it.

Billy Buttsex - 2007-10-07

Eh... as much as I think Bill O'Reilly's a douche, I have to admit I'm skeptical when groups like Media Matters claim someone's being a racist. I mean, Bill definitely did wrong here, but these groups are the same kinds of people who believe you're a racist if you're opposed to illegal immigration, or don't think a guy should be given a job just to fill a race quota.

Bill's wrong, but still... this whole racist/anti-racist thing makes me sick and frustrated, especially as a white-looking male (even though I'm half Honduran) who doesn't like being called racist every time he calls for fair play or the enforcement of rules when dealing with minorities.

I think I'm sick of both the racists and the people who constantly cry racism. I need a new planet to live on.

StanleyPain - 2007-10-07

For the record, no one really is "crying racism." His comment was stupid and insensitive, basically saying he was shocked that black people can act civil. He was called on it, and instead of apologizing and just admitting it was a dumb thing, he pulled all this shit. However, calling O'Reilly racist isn't really too much of a stretch given his long history of saying things about blacks that would get most people kicked off the air.

Billy Buttsex - 2007-10-07

I totally agree. I'm not saying that the people who got pissed about Bill were being obnoxious and oversensitive... I actually believe that Bill is being a total douche, but what I WAS saying was that I'm tired of people making such a hoopla over these things. I guess I'm just getting tired of having racism shoved in my face when I'm not a racist and I don't see a whole lot of it in action because I've always lived in multicultural areas. I'm just a guy trying to live his life, and I don't want to hear about this garbage anymore.

Blaise - 2007-10-07

Media Matters never "adds tags" (i.e. racist) to their reporting, they simply state the controversial comment.
BTW they tend to add plenty of context, i.e. before and after text/audio, much more than they really need to.
They have hundreds of inane O'Reilly comments, most simply document his factual inaccuracies and biases.
O'Reilly hates Media Matters simply because they provide a history database of many of his controversial comments.
A database other people can use to argue Bill O'Reilly is _____.

Camonk - 2007-10-08

Gasp! Media matters are better journalists than Billo? Wait, so is the deuce I squeezed out this morning, so that's not as surprising as I initially thought.

LetsFistAgain - 2007-10-08

Whereas Media Research Center are journalistic gods fighting for the greater good of the aryan race.

Seriously though fuck em both. Im sick of these companies devoted to media criticism. Isnt the point of criticism that its up to you to decide what sound reasonable or not? Last time i checked somebody wanted to put a criticism section on the Bill Hicks section on Wikipedia. Excuse me? He was a fucking comedian! Why dont we just accept that were all assholes who cant stand eachothers opinions and bias is a concept by wich we try to destroy them.

IrishWhiskey - 2008-08-23

"I guess I'm just getting tired of having racism shoved in my face when I'm not a racist... I'm just a guy trying to live his life, and I don't want to hear about this garbage anymore."

Considering the blatantly racist remarks you make later on, this response comes with an extra scoop of irony, whether the "inferior darkies be raping the white man" stuff is real or not. In fact, even more so if its just all trolling for attention.

LetsFistAgain - 2007-10-08

"Prehaps ill be a member of the Manson family the next time!"

OOOH SURE SHOWED THEM!
