They should incorporate that ending into every video game advertisement.

Jingoro - 2007-08-28

Easily the best video game.

Xenocide - 2007-08-28

So playing Joust will cause the universe to lose all semblance of sanity. Gotcha.

eatenmyeyes - 2007-08-28

So has David Cronenberg done any other video game commercials?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2007-08-28

Well okay then.

Adramelech - 2007-08-28

I bet that last 15 seconds really helped sell more copies.

Aoi - 2007-08-29

Oh god. The decline of videogame advertising has never been more clear than it is now.

anvill - 2007-08-29

A Joust movie is in preproduction. This commercial renders it even less necessary.

It's a shame that the Atari 5200 was a failure in the marketplace just because it wasn't backwards-compatible with the 2600. I mean, come on, the 2600's games were complete pieces of shit, even by 1982 standards. If people wanted to keep playing their 2600 games they could, I dunno, keep their fucking 2600. Or Atari could have put out a 2600 compatibility cartridge or something, for those people who really cared. Of course the lack of 2600 compatibility wasn't the sole reason for its commercial failure; it also had those terrible controllers. It's interesting that Atari repeated the exact same mistakes when they designed the Jaguar.

All this has absolutely nothing to do with the above ad.

garcet71283 - 2007-08-29

Sure it did. While Atari should have been making better game systems, they were instead making these commercials.

Camonk - 2007-08-29

I initially thought the whole paragraph was a joke at the PS3's expense. It still fits, though.

Repomancer - 2008-04-10

I had Joust for my 5200!

The 5200 was just a 400 computer in console garb. The Jaguar was a monumental fuckup with an incredibly bizarre architecture unlike anything before or (thankfully) since.

Aubrey McFate - 2007-08-29

What the fucking hell.

Afgh - 2007-08-29

I thought I was ready for anything this commercial could throw at me.

I was wrong.

athodyd - 2007-08-31

The crazy turkey/ostrich transformation scene was Adrian Lyne's inspiration for Jacob's Ladder.

Genghis the gerbil - 2007-09-02

I don't know what the hell I just witnessed.

HURF BLURF DUH - 2007-10-19

First of all, what the fuck is up with a 2 minute 30 second commercial for a video game cartridge. TV spots were 30 seconds back in 1982 just like they are now, weren't they?

Second, the end part... wow.

FABIO2 - 2008-01-30

My favorite part wasn't the face that kinghts burst through the floor and duel on giant muppet birds, but the fact that someone felt it needed to be two whole minutes long.

Plus the ending, of course.

Corman's Inferno - 2008-02-22

Did the production team of Amazing Stories work for Atari?

dementomstie - 2008-03-30

I'm never eating raw ostrich eggs again!

bopeton - 2008-05-05

Sold!

Keefu - 2009-04-09

huh

Lies, lies, LIES! - 2009-04-25

I WILL KICK ALL OF YOUR ASSES AT JOUST.
