Yeah, being a drummer I went to "drum circles" a few times, usually in the parking lot of some Dead show or something. It was never more than rich white assholes completely wasted, punishing some POS plastic djembe they bought at Guitar Center. One asshole I knew would judge his success at playing the hand drums by how swollen and painful his hands where. The circles ended up sounding like a herd of water buffalo within minutes.

Well, technique on its own doesn't mean shit, anyone can learn to play (or paint or drive or weld or whatever) with a high level of technical precision, but this guy is also a good musician and that's where the typical jam dude falls short. Being a good musician is only loosely correlated with technical skill.
