Netflix used to have an absolute batshit documentary on Unit 731.

Here's a clip of the insanity

The main issue here is that Americans hid and protected the perpetrators of crimes against humanity worse than Mengele. And the base cause seems to be that Americans simply did not care about the victims of the experiments, most likely because they were Chinese and Russian, and thus their suffering was not worthy of justice if even the slightest benefit to America could be gained protecting the war criminals.

Wikipedia says the Americans tried and convicted parts of the unit that abused American POWs but ignored the accusations when it was done to Chinese people. There is definitely a big racial angle here.

And gave them immunity in exchange for the results of their “research”.

But hey, we advanced science right? Totally worth it…

There's a podcast, "Lion's Led by Donkeys", which covers a lot of military history and stuff.

They bring up an important point about the "research" we gained from the holocaust and from unit 731, and that is that the information we got is basically useless. You could argue that there's a few slightly more specific details we got on some things, but it's also important to remember that these experiments weren't done with care and scientific rigor. They were what happens when the worst people you know fancy themselves researchers, and you just loose them upon a group that you're currently genociding.

Nobody likes to remember Unit 731.

Maybe you shouldn't look at Wernher von Braun or project paperclip. Might make you feel bad about reality.

Oh I know quite well how often and willing Americans are willing to protect war criminals when it serves their interests.

Most Americans don’t though.

teethsalad - 2023-03-08

once again, if you think this impulse is limited to america and america alone maybe crack open a history book sometime

SolRo - 2023-03-08

On no I do not.

I just constantly see Americans acting like they’re pure untouched snow, especially politicians making “world police” decisions and media spreading that propaganda.

Blessed by the dead, for they are above retribution.

Lol

“American military leaders oppose helping the court investigate Russians because they fear setting a precedent that might help pave the way for it to prosecute Americans. ”
