I tried many times to get into the Beasty Boys. I always heard of what hip hop legends they are and how their albums are on so many greatest lists, but I just always hated the way their lyrics are recorded. I can't understand them for shit because they're mixed with far too much distortion, reverb, and the high frequencies turned up all the way. I really tried, and eventually gave up. I'll just say now that they suck and are overrated, as if they make their lyrics unintelligible then it's likely because they have nothing of value to say.
Although I have to say, I kept liking them into high school; as they matured, so did I.
BTW Cena, their later stuff is less hip hop and more... eclectic. Sabotage, for example, isn't really hip hop. Doesn't mean you'll like their later stuff, necessarily since it all remains very Beastie Boys, somehow.
