I used to work as a professional bee keeper. There are lot of viral things on the internet about reinventing bee hives. Wooden boxes and frames work really well. They're cheap. There's no real problem with opening hives and fucking around with the little guys. The problem bees face are pathogens, pesticides, and lack of diverse habitat.
