Spitting Image? Max Headroom? I can't believed they walked around our chunk of spacetime looking like that.

You could be a glorifying teaching robot as far as I'm concerned.. IT'S MY SPACETIME 🤣

garcet71283 - 2022-01-06

So which one got the botch plastic surgery that the other was like “well..guess we should stay rwins

casualcollapse - 2022-01-06

You made this in jest but I believe it's more likely than you think

Cena_mark - 2022-01-06

Like in the Prestige where one twin gets shot in the hand, so his brother also had to get his hand mangled.

And 5 stars for you, garcet.

The original Chrissy Teigen hammocks-grafted-to-the-cheeks look.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-01-06

The other explanation offered , acromegaly, seems plausible. Remember Rotto Hatton?

casualcollapse - 2022-01-06

Especially since this disease occurs most often between 30 and 40 years, while the famous twins, who are now 69 years old, began their metamorphosis around the age of fifty. So much the better for them, so we can say, acromegaly is a very dangerous disease, beyond the physical inconvenience it causes.

Cribbed from googling their name and that term. So I'm going to say probably not

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-01-06

Well, I'm not backing down from "seems plausible", but that's as far as I'm willing to go on the subject

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-01-06

Nope. I'm going further.

The way the video presents it is "It was acromegaly... or was it?" It's sort of presented as the default explanation, and then a whole lot more time is devoted to those who suspected plastic surgery. The twins denied it, and so maybe acromegaly was the lie?

Maybe, but I'm team acromegaly, and I'll tell you why.

The changes to the twins' faces mostly involve the expansion of cheekbones and the chins. I'm going to be highly speculative here, and I'm just an English major, but it seems intuitive that adding to the facial structure with implants is inherently more precise and repairable than removing tissue in a face lift. My conjecture is that if you add implants, and the implants are too big, you can fix that.

From the wikipedia article, which doesn't seem to mention acromegaly:

The [Sydney Morning] Herald noted that the twins' cheekbones had become noticeably larger in the 1990s, and that "growth in their lips and chins continued unabated through the last decade".

The verb "continued" would suggest that, if they fucked up their faces with surgery, they decided to double down on the fucking up. Not impossible. The Herald also stated that the twin's appearance at the Cannes festival "caused a sensation around the world." That might be a motive.

Also, from wiki

>>According to former education minister Luc Ferry, a friend of the brothers, they had both received botox injections for cosmetic treatment.

But this doesn't look like any botox treatment I've e ver heard of.

From

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/acromegaly/

Acromegaly sometimes runs in families, but most of the time it's not inherited. Adenomas usually spontaneously develop because of a genetic change in a cell of the pituitary gland. This change causes uncontrolled growth of the affected cells, creating the tumour.

But obviously, any ngeetic ae likely to be repeated in identical twins.

Excuse me. there's something fucked up happening to my computer

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-01-06

Any genetic anomaly is more likely to be repeated in identical twins.

Of course, I don't really know the answer. I enjoyed speculating.

Anaxagoras - 2022-01-07

Actually, genetic anomalies are guaranteed to be repeated in identical twins. Identical twins, by definition, share the exact same set of genes. Technically speaking, the term "acromegaly" refers to a condition caused by a genetic anomaly, not the genetic anomaly itself. So even though they're guaranteed to have the same genetic anomaly, it's not guaranteed that the anomaly will be expressed in both twins. (A wide variety of environmental conditions determine if particular genes are expressed, which is why identical twins are often very different people... both in terms of personality as well as their bodies.)

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-01-08

One thing I forgot to mention is that these guys really fucking looked like Rondo Hatton, the most famous case of acromegaly I know. Google him if you need to.

While researching this, I learned that Rondo Hatton was established as a journalist as well as an actor. I'd love to see something he wrote.

Jeriko-1 - 2022-01-07

I can't not read the YouTube video title without hearing Arnold's voice in my head.

"WHO ARE THE BOGDANOFS AND HOW DID THEY DIE?"
"Maybe it was a tumor?"
"IT'S NOT A TUMAH!"
