I think "jumpscares" sells the genre short. Alien: Isolation is the best survival horror game from the past 10 years, and it was built as a third-person game for most of its development, until the devs realized a first-person perspective was just more immersive. And that's how RE7 felt, too: more immersive, atmospheric, and haunting than the two subsequent reboots, which focused more on action and fetch-puzzles. There are plenty of good third-person RE games (I think Revelations 2 is better than many of the "main" entries), but I'm glad to see Capcom giving their experiment with a different format one more try.
