The prosecution offered her ex-boyfriend probation (instead of ten years in prison) to try and get him to say that Breonna was involved in dealing drugs with him on the night that police murdered her. He took the ten years instead.

Police and prosecutors in this country are irredeemable. They can't be reformed. Giving them more money will only make the problem worse.

Crackersmack - 2020-09-01

The choice in 2 months is this:

Do you want to live in a fascist police state that looks like a fascist police state? Or do you want to live in a fascist police state that liberals can pretend is just fine?

SolRo - 2020-09-01

Do you ever want to face reality and work to improve it or just live in your parents basement surrounded by Che posters until the sheeple wake up and do all the work for you?

Crackersmack - 2020-09-01

And what does facing reality and working to improve it look like to you? Is it voting for Joe Biden? lol

SolRo - 2020-09-01

The reality is trump is president.

Biden is the improvement.

And you can improve Biden being president after 4 years with someone better.

How fucking dumb are you not to understand this very simple concept?

Hazelnut - 2020-09-01

Ashtarsmack has admitted several times already that he doesn't believe what he's saying, he just thinks he's a hilerious troll.

Frankly, if he wants to spend six hours a day trying to convince people not to vote — have fun with that. He's not going to convince a soul, not now.

simon666 - 2020-09-01

Crackersmack, I'm going to need a thorough addressing by you of Kamala Harris's support of 'defunding the police' before I'm even remotely open to your hyperbolic facist if you do an facist if you don't seeming false dichotomy.

>>>>Do you want to live in a fascist police state that looks like a fascist police state? Or do you want to live in a fascist police state that liberals can pretend is just fine?

Do you want less innocent black people to die, or do you want more innocent black people to die, so you can win more arguments in the
POE TV COMMENTS?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-09-01

>>>And what does facing reality and working to improve it look like to you? Is it voting for Joe Biden? lol

ah yes. "LOL" When you don't have a good argument, use mockery, and you when you can't think of a good mock, type "LOL".

Very witty, Mr Wilde!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-09-01

This is what I mean by "ideological Aspergers". The focus is on some ideological concept, not on how many people are killed by disease or social unrest. A police state where you can't pretend it's not a police state will brutalize more people, but it will make your point for you.

For almost my entire life, the status quo in America has been compromise and progress, compromise and progress, over and over, a slow steady march forward. What we have now is the opposite of that.

Politics is what we have instead of a dictatorship, and what people like Cracky share with the MAGAGAs is an impatience with the failure of politics to give you everything you want, right away. Politics forces you to live with the consequences of other people living here, and wanting different things than you do. A few of them are evil, many more of them are just wrong, and unfortunately, money talks. The MAGAGAs look to a strongman. I think Crackersmack is looking to some revolution after things get bad enough. I'll confess that I've had that thought, and sometimes the thought gives me comfort.

But what's right in front of us right now looks to me like a choice between more people or less people being crushed by the system. I'll pick less.

Hazelnut - 2020-09-01

Anyway, please ignore the bullshit troll up there ^^^ who is deliberately distracting from the whole point: that Breonna Taylor deserves justice.

exy - 2020-09-01

For rhetoric's sake, I wish, instead of "defund the police," the slogans that had initially launched had been along the lines of

RELIEVE the Police [of certain responsibilities]

or

REDEFINE the Police

because this type of shit has been going on too long in too many places under too many mayors who are experts in deflection, like this guy.

Nominal - 2020-09-01

It really was the dumbest possible slogan for a good idea.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-09-02

I've felt the same way, but I've changed my mind. "Defund the police." is actually a plan. Of course, it is challenging, but maybe we need to be challenged. I remember all the expressions that I used to take umbrage at, especially feminist expressions like "male gaze", and "mansplaining". I used to think that "microaggressions" were stupid , but now I see that for some people they add up.

Anyway, if "Black Lives Matter" seems overly aggressive to Republicans, instead of merely obvious, what's the point in not wanting to offend them?

It feels risky in an election year, but its out there. It requires discussion to be understood, but its a discussion we need to have.

exy - 2020-09-02

Good points. I could argue that "relieve" the police ponts in approximately the same direction as "defund," but "redefine" is both more sweeping and more vague, and having some sort of explicit compass/metric seems useful.
