A convoluted mess

It goes from a blood & guts anime with a decent plot (actual multiple characters arcs with multiple plotlines), to a one-note episodic monster of the week cliche fest. Guts wanders around with stock one-note characters (complete with small creature comic relief) and fights a demon at the end, going through the standard Voltron fight progression where he starts losing until he whips out an arm cannon (and later on, demonic armor) instead of the blazing sword.

It also goes into Lost territory where the plot itself isn't interesting, but they try to hook you with the promise that all these mysteries will be answered. Who is the skull knight? Will Casca stop being a traumatized infant? What is the deal with demon Griffith suddenly showing back in the human world, now appearing human again, and is apparently a good guy general leading an army of tamed demons against a demon sultan? What is the deal with the conquering Sultan, who is also some transformed demon but is apparently rebelling against the demon world to conquer everything for himself? What happened to five evil demon lords (they showed up with demon Griffith for a bit in the beginning then were never seen again)?

Incidentally, I tried to start watching season 2 of Attack on Titan, and gave up after three episodes. It's just a parade of introducing more and more dumb mysteries in place of any plot progression, and my prediction that they would go Battlestar Galactica and have EVERYONE be a secret Titan.
