Trump believes in rewarding people who benefit him, and punishing anyone not "loyal". He's bragged while in office about how great Turkey is for the Trump organization and how he's making money from them. The Kurds don't personally benefit him.

He also is god-awful at negotiating, and tries to bully and intimidate women and who he thinks are weak men, but rolls over and shows his belly to every 'strongman'. According to leaks from the day of the decision, people who heard the call said he "got rolled" by Ergodan. It's incredibly easy to do and we've seen dictators do it in realtime. He's only assertive on twitter, or on the Apprentice when the contestants had left the room, because he was too weak to fire them to their faces.

Also it's something Putin wants, and god only knows what he has on Trump. We know he had proof of Trump colluding with Russia and exchanging campaign data for help prior to his entering office, but Trumps been dealing with Russia and the Russian mob for decades.

I don't think Putin needs to have anything on Trump. Trump is a fox viewer that got voted into office.
