Maybe it needs a 'Furries' tag. I think it's taking Cats and making it into movie quality, costumes and efx of today, and this is the here and now of movies, we'd better get used to it.
The hate machine is turned up full in the comments, and I hope the producers don't have to go back and redesign the characters, like they're doing with the Sonic movie.
My mom might have liked this, she always played the Cats soundtrack with Barbra Streisand singing memory.

I was baked the first time I watched this and didn't notice the bad face-on-body CGI. 5 for bad CGI, 5 for "who asked for this?" and 5 horrible, over the top, "epic" production of the sound track. Way to suck out all the charm of "Memories," hacks.

The stage show is only impressive because real live human beings are performing real complex elegant physical feats live right in front of us.
What's the point of this?
Audiences were wowed by "Mad Max: Fury Road" because they built real cars and really blew them the fuck up. Nobody gives a shit if you CGI blow up CGI cars in a more spectacular manner because we know that, however visually impressive it is, it's still just a bunch of 1s & 0s.
Even if they have a hundred CGI peoplecats dancing perfectly in synch & pulling off amazing moves, we're going to know it's all just 1s & 0s. Even the real dance moves will be heavily edited & enhanced.
They would have been better served doing it with traditional hand animation, highly artsy & stylized, because even though that's not real, either, real effort and art would have gone into creating it.

Fury Road made significantly less money than Ant Man. It barely broke even.

But...why didn't they just use CGI actual cats? Like instead of people dressed up in tights and CGI cat face-alikes pasted on, just use singing CGI cats.
Or better yet, use CGI cats and hire the Jingle Cats guy to do all the songs with actual cats.
