It was almost impressive how lazy and ball-dropping the last 2 seasons were. Plot lines that had been building for years were just dropped or forgotten about, and the final season turned into such Arya fan fiction that they could have renamed her Marceline.

The comic relief was especially bad. You could predict every Whedonesque punchline coming.

"They're going to make a joke about how they're going to save a trip by dying in a tomb...and there it is."

Two Jar Slave - 2019-06-18

People took this show way too seriously.

The last season was fine. In fact, the zombie battle was outright fantastic. It created a conclusion that works, and that's more than most shows get.

And, come on man, the entire thing has been Arya fanfic from the very start. Unless you thought the tale of a 12-year-old tomboy travelling the world, living by her wits, and learning to become 3 different kinds of ninja assassin was fine and nuanced literature? She's a stock YA character, and that's okay because these are just fantasy novels that happen to feature above-average amounts of death, politics, and backstory.

Most serial dramas blow it in the end, because that type of storytelling is about the plot twists and the character moments, not the final destination. There is no ending satisfying enough to retroactively justify sitting through 70 hours of people frowning and drinking wine. Fans who believed it was all headed towards some prophetic moment missed the point of the show, and if you know what Azor Ahai means you need to chill.

Two Jar Slave is right, GOT is garbage marketed to cretins.

People took this show way too seriously =/= writing was good the last two seasons

It's true that no ending will satisfy 100% of the audience. However, it's not the what that bothered people most, it's the how. The writers phoned it in, plain and simple. They were offered more seasons and episodes to flesh out the ending. They refused, because they wanted to hurry on to the next project.

By the way, I really hope you don't like Star Wars, because that's where D&D are going next.

There was bad, phoned-in writing throughout the series. Fans just finally realized it because they were micro-analyzing the finale.

Star Wars is okay, but not as good as Star Whores.

You see, they actually had to write something the final two seasons instead of adapting something already written, with a fleshed out universe, tons of characters (too many to include all of). It makes what they CAN fit in seem much more believably part of a larger universe.

Two jars is either the least discerning person ever or trolling. It's night and day, the difference in quality. Character arcs dropped or diminished. Threads left unresolved. Every scene is just a meeting between certain characters that were expected to someday meet.

The north of the wall episode? Give me a fucking break. Pandering horseshit and completely out of tone with the entire rest of the series.

It was like all of a sudden they started making decisions the same way a director who wants their movie appeal to both american and chinese audiences makes them. Bland and lowbrow. Hitting beats for the sake of formula.

After some thought this is the "The Sailor Moon" of endings, i.e. there is still another chapter of the books to be published and the ending we did get in the TV was because they decided to go with X-amount of episodes from the start.

That said Sailor Moon still had a better conclusion.

Actually the number of episodes per season was never ever in stone anywhere ever and til the bitter end george RR was telling them not to do 6 episodes for the final season - he wanted 8 min 10 preferrably 12 optimal. He gave them complete creative control and until the final seasons they made pretty good decisions.
