This is my secret shame comfort food. Bake up the cheapest, tiniest canned biscuits you can find (sometimes 2 for $1), split those up, spoon a dollop of deviled ham on there, cure for the blues.
Want to go wild? Make some Bisquick, put a can of Underwood Deviled Ham in the batter, stir. Add a dollop of Dijon mustard and a handful of grated cheddar, bake regularly. Dank family Christmas treat.
If anything I’d say American white people food is typically artificially over-flavored (but under-spiced), too salty and/or sugary. On top of which layers of other strongly flavored condiments are slathered.
Especially mid-20th century... the amount of flavor necessary to be distinguishable through the layers of tar on every adult’s tongue prevented people at parties from accidentally eating napkins.
