This is the most patronising bullshit I have seen for a long time.

This is going to be playing non-stop at the Trump presidential library (a proud member of the TRUMP library group!) in every room at all times.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2018-06-13

I imagine there are style guides to introduce Trump, President of Destiny - pause a little after President, and say Destiny a bit slower and deeper for emphasis. I'm not sure whether there are cymbals to crash after people say it.

So...what does everyone think China offered to trump to make him so desperate to start this circus act?

He was all about Palestine/Israel peace at first but I'm guessing someone in APAIC or Israel itself offered him a ton of money to ignore the ethnic cleansing.

Meerkat - 2018-06-13

Someone jangled their fucking keys.

SolRo - 2018-06-13

white house staffer leaks have refuted the effectiveness of that multiple times.

Meerkat - 2018-06-13

With that said it would be super nice if Kim was also attracted to shiny objects but I suspect he's just going along with it because it's convenient for him to have a useful idiot to play off.

This thing looks like it was shot in 1974. Futuristic by North Korean standards, but still.

Cena_mark - 2018-06-13

But the Kims have always gotten the latest media and technology. Kim Jong Il was a huge film buff collecting thousands of American films.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2018-06-13

I was sort of making a joke, but you're right. This is cheesy, but not a terrible idea. I don't know how big on movies Jong-Un is, but his dad was a big-time cinephile. This is hardly the most embarrassing thing about that summit.

fedex - 2018-06-13

Dude he made Kim watch it together with him....WTF was he thinking

Y'all sound like you're assuming Dennis Rodman's pal has the same exclusive tastes of post-ironic Western film critics. What looks almost tongue-in-cheek to some could be taken very sincerely by others. I mean... look at North Korea's own media...

Cena_mark - 2018-06-13

Right, but the Kims have access to whatever media they want. Kim Jong Il collected tons of films, his favorite movies were the Rambo series. He also had every Michael Jordan game on tape. That's the problem with Trump. Like you he's assuming that Kim is an idiot.

Cena_mark - 2018-06-13

The very fact that the Kims struck up a friendship with Rodman is because of their love of American media, how did you think it happened?

What bothers me is that the peace process is being driven by South Koreans, a lot of behind-the-scenes work and most are cautiously optimistic to enthusiastic about it it appears, a few radical nationalist types aside, and the tone of a lot of the coverage in the US from our punditocracy has glib dismissal of the summit (a 100% necessary part of the process, unfortunately) by chauvinist and myopic news media creatures.

"What, interview actual Korean citizens and officials? Why do that when we can quote straight from the fucking Heritage Foundation and the defense contractor sponsored Center for Strategic and International Studies whose pundits and 'experts' like to pose as neutral."

US coverage of the summit has been so genuinely awful -- dominated by brainless think tankers, neocon scum like Bill Kristol, David Frum and the like and #Resistance people who have all lost their minds and see Putin hiding behind every corner.

To top it off, Rachel Maddow has gone full Glen Beck and gets high ratings for conspiritard rantings like this

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/trump-military-exerci se-giveaway-to-n-korea-suits-putin-s-goals-1254434371701

Maddow starts off the segment with the reveal that North Korea and Russia share a brief stretch of border, presenting this bit of geography like's it's a sinister secret she just came across and teaches her audience lessons in becoming hawkish paranoids. She then goes on a dot-connecting monologue that's the verbal equivalent of the board full of cards and notes and connecting lines Charlie whipped up in that one episode of It's Always Sunny. The headline on the MSNBC website version gives away the big reveal. Live viewers had to sit through 18+ minutes to learn that Putin is most likely orchestrating all diplomacy on the Korean peninsula. And she's not just some nut, but one with millions of viewers.
