Don't miss the interview footage beginning around 9:00, everyone involved is such a mess.

First 3 minutes is where all the relevant stuff is.

Oh jesus christ East Side Dave. He was some asshat stuntboy on XM satellite radio who was known only for shouting a lot and shoving things up his ass. I only knew about him from listening to clips of Louis CK's radio appearances. Louis has zero patience for his nonsense.

At 9:42 I recognized Daniel "Bobo" Kurlan in the audience. He was a..."special" fanboy of a lot of the XM zoo shows. Best appearance was when Patrice O'Neil was ragging a comic for not letting Bobo open for him.

The thing with Todd Rogers & Billy Mitchell's fake high scores is that they never expected a new generation of video game spergs to outmaneuver them. You got twenty-somethings who, without a second thought, record their every move and detail of a speedrun because they actually want people to watch them play. Every accomplishment is shared not just to safeguard their claims. It's because they grew up with social media outlets ready for them.

This is hilarious because you got the Twin Galaxies old guard jealously guarding their positions. They hated anyone new entering into their sphere of influence and were quick to smackdown anything that would challenge the status quo. Whereas the new generation can't help themselves to get as many people involved as possible.

It's stupid so much effort and attention is given to video game high scores. But it's entertaining to watch a bunch of old fogeys scramble to retain their dignity when the new kids on the block call them on their bullshit.

Old_Zircon - 2018-02-22

Yes it is, and I am looking forward to watching the cycle repeat itself in another 20 years.

yogarfield - 2018-02-21

Billy Mitchell is incredibly pompous for someone that looks like an unemployed wizard that is constantly dressed for his next Best Buy interview.

This is unimportant drama made relevant by sheer douchery.

yogarfield - 2018-02-21

+ 9:41 that's a rather harsh conglomeration of sad sacks.

"Without this guy who achieved z-list infamy by playing a game made by Nintendo, there would be no Nintendo!"

cognitivedissonance - 2018-02-21

It's super easy to frame a normal person as a snarling villain in a documentary, but Mitchell really wants to own that persona and I think, in truth, he's probably actually guilty of the unexamined life not worth living.

Xenocide - 2018-02-21

What would we even call the Watergate of gaming though?

Perhaps "Watergame," or "Gamerproblem" or maybe "Gamerga...veoutfakescores."

infinite zest - 2018-02-21
