Did MTV play any ABBA during the first three hours (presumably first four or five hours considering how many of these songs are edited?).

ABBA was one of the first major bands to have filmed "promotional clips" for most of their singles right from the beginning.

Oh, I probably should have thought about checking Wikipedia before asking but I didn't think there would be a list quite that specific on there.

ABBA didn't invent the "promotional clip" format but they certainly were an enthusiastic early adopter. But I suppose ABBA's popularity was already waning by August 1981, especially in America where they really only ever had a single number 1 Billboard hit ("Dancing Queen", obviously).

As far as I can tell, every band who ever pre-recorded something for Ed Sullivan (or Top of the Tops or whatever) think they invented the music video.

I do remember seeing the ABBA videos in the 80s though... they were a band you weren't supposed to like even if everyone secretly did.
