I like that Sean Hannity, Child Molester are linked tags.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-11-11

Oh Hannity, you're skipping the most important bit. As the assistant DA, he would troll for these underage girls at custody hearings. That's planned predatory behavior, not just impulsive actions.

What really left me gobsmacked are the defense of him with the Bible. Not the fact that god loves guys fucking their underage daughters, anyone can find numerous examples of this in the text. No, it's the specific example. And I quote from Jim Ziegler:

"Also take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus.”

Let's just pause for a moment, and try to take this all in. In order to defend Roy Moore, Jim is willing to commit the most fundamental heresy against his religion, by rejecting the immaculate conception and by extension the divinity of Christ himself. I'm pretty sure that's a mortal sin, not a venal one. Back in the day, that'd get you burned at the stake.

Watching the modern Republican party is like watching a limbo dance at a club. The bar is lowered and lowered, yet somehow the dances contort themselves to pass under it. I'm not sure how much lower it can go, but we're going to find out.

A friend pointed out the inanity of Ziegler's statement:
Joseph was the husband of Mary, but he was not the father of Jesus.

It was the Holy Spirit that was creeping on Mary.

Fundamentalists / Republicans do not have consciences as you or I understand them. Perhaps they once did, but any faculty that goes unused for a long time will eventually atrophy.

Additionally, fundamentalist Christianity does not have any true ethics or principles when it comes to sex. Instead of principles there are roughly two rules: sex outside of marriage is wrong (though often forgivable), gay sex is even more wrong (and less likely forgivable).

Contrast with us heathens who start with the proposition that sex is allowable if and only if it doesn't risk causing harm, which leads to concepts like consent, informed consent, positive consent, coercion, power dynamics, trust, betrayal, and so on. We heathens can look at this situation and be appalled on a variety of levels, but if you asked a fundamentalist what Roy Moore did wrong, they might say: "... um, he wasn't married to the girls, right?"

Tribalism at its worst. It doesn't matter that they are obvious hypocrites, they will turn right back around and start talking about how immoral democrats are at the first opportunity. It isn't that they have no self-awareness, they just don't care.

Old_Zircon - 2017-11-11

Based on a cursory reading of Luke 1, it looks to me like she didn't really give consent to the Holy Spirit, it just showed up and made her pregnant.

Really makes you wonder why God has forsaken Bill O'Reilly, because it sounds like they were on the same page about some stuff.

Old_Zircon - 2017-11-11

(Also, Immaculate Conception is a specifically Catholic thing and we all know from Jack Chick that Catholics are actually devil worshippers, not Christians at all - you meant Virgin Birth)

Old_Zircon - 2017-11-11

"Meerkat
Tribalism at its worst. "

Am I the only one who assumed this was in reference to Bort's last post?

Bort - 2017-11-11

81% of white evangelicals who voted, voted for Trump. Trump's innumerable faults were right there on display for months; he was about the least Christian candidate this country has ever seen, yet they went for him. It's long past time to stop pretending they are simple churchgoers who have been misled into supporting monsters in election after election ... just as none of us should be surprised when they vote Roy Moore into office.

It isn't tribalism to recognize tribalism.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-11-12

It should come as no surprise Zirc, I was raised Cat-lick.

TeenerTot - 2017-11-11

But it happened years ago!
But the word of one man trumps that of four women!
But this other guy was innocent! And these guys!
But OBAMA!
But CLINTON!
But HOLLYWOOD!

Therefore, Moore is innocent.

Cena_mark - 2017-11-11

For decades conservatives have lorded over us with their claims of their superior Biblical morality. Fuck all these fake sanctimonious phonies.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-11-11

Bin Laden’s plan was to turn the word “Christian” into meaning “white and American”. And they happily took him up on that offer, because it was what they wanted all along.

memedumpster - 2017-11-11

I now call what Hannity is doing "The Louis CK-Pax Defense."

Tribes will defend their rapists, it's the 342nd Rule of Acquisition.

Tribes long ago learned to separate their politicians/artists/capitalists from their politics/art/work, otherwise there'd be no one to vote for/listen to/shop from.

In other news, hey hey hey, Bim's on the way!

jangbones - 2017-11-11

eh, I think the defenses of CK and Spacey have been a little different overall than this

sure there are wacked out loonies on both sides, but the ones trying to defend Moore's pedophilia are top rated television hosts and actual elected officials

Binro the Heretic - 2017-11-12

I was born & raised in Alabama.

People there would gladly vote for a child rapist if the alternative is a Democrat getting the office.

I don't live in Alabama any more.

Cena_mark - 2017-11-12

The only thing in Alabama which is good are the Roll Tides.
