This thing cost a fortune.

I had the Slime Pit and even that was a pretty big deal, like $15-$20 (which is more like $50-$60 in today's money, if not more, and that was after it had been out a while and the price had gone down - I got it the Christmas AFTER it was cool) for a couple pieces of plastic.

Totally worth it though.

Anyway this was at least 3x the price, I never even saw one of these outside of toy stores.

I did get The Hive for $10 at a local overstock liquidator though, because nobody but me liked Sectaurs apparently, even though Sectaurs ruled.

All this talk of money, maybe we should rename this thing THE PRICE ZONE!

THE PRICE ZONE!!

THE PRIZE ZONE!!!

These playsets in general were expensive and if you didn't have much money as a kid the only ones in reach were the weird ones nobody wanted which is how I ended up with Power Lords Vulcan Rock (which wasn't even $10):

Sorry, VOLcan Rock (for copyright reasons?).

This was also a year or two after they were discontinued, I think all of these things were insanely unattainable before it turned out that nobody wanted them.

Thanks for helping me get toys that didn't come out of other people's trash, Building #19!

I never had a playset until they had started to hit garage sales. I finally got a Snake Mountain well into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles era, and I was mainly into it for the voice changing microphone, so I strategically removed the speaker and screwed it into a cardboard box, which I shellacked heavily and treated like it was a SERIOUS SCIENTIFIC ENDEAVOR. My operating fantasy at the time was to be a builder of dark rides, so I'd tried to build these complicated blanket and pillow forts with illustrations of monsters tacked up inside, and I'd force by brother to crawl through them while I made scary noises with the Skeletor microphone.

So this is where the evil WHORE hides out. THE FRIGHT ZONE!
