(5 page think-piece about how even violent racists deserve to practice their beliefs because freedom)

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-10-16

I just don't see how your argument against them is any better than their argument against you.

"We should be able to stop them and trample all over their rights because we don't like what they're saying."

The rhetoric is so similar on both sides it's scary, and every time I point this out, the crybabies on either side immediately accuse me of being on the opposite side. Whereas in my humble opinion, in a just, sane world, all altretards and antifaggots would be loaded up into the first available rocket and shot straight into the sun post haste.

StanleyPain - 2017-10-17

What's with all the dust in here? Jesus....it's like a sandstorm or someth.....
Oh....I see. Someone brought the "Intolerance of the intolerant is the real bigtory" out of the basement. Haven't seen that in awhile.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

DQL is a triggered Nazi snowflake.

StanleyPain - 2017-10-17

You know it's bad when the proper sentence structure and capitalization comes out as opposed to the "ironic racist" detached no caps or punctuation thing.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-10-17

"violent racists deserve to practice their beliefs because freedom"

Nobody on this site has ever said this or insinuated this and they wouldn't ever. Violent racists deserve to state what their beliefs are because freedom, and don't forget it. The things they might like to do that society should have a problem with are ALREADY ILLEGAL.

"Intolerance of the intolerant is the real bigtory"

Not "the real bigotry", just also bigotry... and it's clearly a stance that needs taking because people merely wanting to discuss how we should avoid thought policing makes immature morons like you want to police their thoughts as well.

Nominal - 2017-10-17

No, practicing violence is the crossed line that should get anyone arrested and put away. Everyone who shows up to a rally wanting a fight should be thrown into an arena together and the winners firebombed.

Everyone has the right to dress up and take part in a parade of limp dick gasbags to tell the world what idiots they are, including dumbass 20 somethings who fail to see the irony of fighting fascism & the KKK by hiding their faces, dressing in black shirts, and assaulting political opposition rallies. Step it up and show the nazis a thing or two by organizing an anti-fascist book burning.

Cena Mouthbreather is totally okay with nazi supporters becoming president because the other candidate wasn't "likeable". But it's fine because he also advocates for public assault and preemptive murder!

He's joined by SolRo, the resident living embodiment of constant animosity and jew-hating, ready to strike a blow for humanitarianism against the nazis.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

What the fuck Nominal. I told you I voted for Hillary. Trump is on you, because you're cool with the DNC rigging the primaries for her coronation.

Bort - 2017-10-17

Oh fuck you, Cena. The primaries weren't rigged; all that happened is that minorities were allowed to vote, and Bernie had no idea how to reach them. If it were just whites voting, Bernie would have beaten Hillary, that's true. But then when it came to the general election, there's no way Bernie could have out-white-grievanced Trump.

Interesting four-part series on Bernie's career from early days:

http://www.shakesville.com/2015/07/looking-for-bernie-part-1-s anders-72.html
http://www.shakesville.com/2015/07/looking-for-bernie-part-2-m r-sanders.html
http://www.shakesville.com/2015/07/looking-for-bernie-part-3-s anders-90.html
http://www.shakesville.com/2015/07/looking-for-bernie-part-4-t urning-right.html

Besides the many compromises and politically-motivated changes of policy that characterize Bernie's career, there's one other recurring theme: every time a woman was in Bernie's way, he took her down by declaring that she was indistinguishable from the Republicans. And his rubes -- his stupid stupid rubes -- uncritically ate it up every time.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

Hillary is like the Roman Reigns of politics. The DNC wanted her to be over, and thought that pushing her nonstop would make the people eventually like her.

Bort - 2017-10-17

More people DID like her than Bernie. That's why Bernie lost the primary.

He did soften her up enough that she could get only 3 million more votes than Trump, though. It's time we acknowledged that Bernie's political ambitions were bad for the country and certainly bad for progressive causes.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

Bernie lost because of super delegates, media neglect, and DNC plots. Instead they went with the runner up to the 08 primary. Nobody wants the DNC's 8 year old leftovers. Especially when it's Hillary (the unrelateable charisma blackhole) Clinton.

Bort - 2017-10-17

Christ, Cena. I thought you'd given up being stupid; you've simply glommed on to the stupid on the other end of the spectrum.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

No I haven't. I'm like a New Deal Democrat. The entire political spectrum has shifted so far to the right that a centrist like you is what a Republican was 30 years ago, and today's Republicans are fucking fascists.

Bort - 2017-10-17

So, TARP: good or bad?

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

Bad. Howabout we bail out our students instead of banks.

Bort - 2017-10-17

TARP was just the 21st century version of FDR's Emergency Banking Act, you idjit. First thing FDR did when he got into office was stabilize the banks: restructure where necessary, insure their assets, loan money as required. THAT IS ALSO EXACTLY WHAT TARP DID.

Most economists agree that the Emergency Banking Act provided necessary stability so the country could start recovering. They say much the same about TARP.

But you -- along with most clueless alleged fans of FDR, including Bernie -- hate TARP, despite how it was straight out of FDR's playbook. In fact, the lot of you recommend doing what Hoover did, which was let the banks collapse.

Perhaps you begin to see why I think FDR-loving TARP haters are, at the very kindest, woefully uninformed.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

So I'm not the most informed. I knew well enough that Hillary was less likely to win than Bernie.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

But yo, let's unite against Trump. I'm willing to forgive your Goldman Sachs Hillary lovers.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

But I knew that about the New Deal. I liked most of the New Deal, just not the Emergency Banking Act.

Bort - 2017-10-17

"So I'm not the most informed."

Well that's a goddamn problem, because democracy requires an informed electorate.

If you -- and critics on the Left -- were familiar with any of the history here, perhaps you'd understand exactly why "Establishment" types think the way they do. Instead, I have heard far too many times that, if I saw the ACA as valuable and TARP as necessary and so on, it can only be because I am greedy and corrupt and I hate change that would help people.

Part of me wants to blame the uninformed and/or dishonest leading voices on the Left -- all the Bernies, Cenks, and Glenns who directly profit from stirring up anger in "progressives" -- but at what point do individual citizens have to take responsibility? I called you stupid earlier, and I apologize for that, because you're not stupid ... but holy hell, we covered FDR and the New Deal in seventh grade history, why did I retain that and you didn't?

Bort - 2017-10-17

"I liked most of the New Deal, just not the Emergency Banking Act."

I imagine I didn't like getting a polio vaccination when I was very young either. Some things aren't a matter of whether you like them or not; some are a matter of survival.

The Emergency Banking Act saved the economy in 1933. TARP saved the economy in 2008, and incidentally turned a profit of several billion dollars by the time loans were repaid. Would you like documentation?

Redford - 2017-10-17

This might be pretty close to the longest comment chain ever on POETV. Keep up the good work, guys!

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

It's cause bort is a brain dead centrist extremist.

15th - 2017-10-17

A dove didn't land on hillary's podium, unlike Bernie. I wonder why....

Maybe we should ask HENRY KISSINGER. Follow the money..

Commander Tugboat - 2017-10-17

Hahaha of course Bort thinks Shakesville is insightful. McEwan is the closest thing neoliberalism has to a findom. She has a natural audience of dudes who vastly overestimate their intelligence and think they're feminist because they sit down to pee.

Commander Tugboat - 2017-10-17

Also:

rigged primary = ridiculous!

someone daring to engage in the primary process = a horrible tragedy that is the root cause of everything!!!

M-DEEM - 2017-10-16

Those are guys are way too attractive, interesting and well spoken to play convincing antifa. Nice try hollywood elite!

SolRo - 2017-10-16

I’m surprised to see you say that, since they’re still black and in the eyes of a stupid racist piece of shit like you that would make them all the above

M-DEEM - 2017-10-16

I guess it is appropriate since to a man antifa types have this weird idea that their sad lives are playing out like some great movie like o'brother when all anyone else sees is a dark unfunny version of monkey pissing in it's own mouth

Gmork - 2017-10-16

If by "anyone else" you mean "worthless pieces of shit who make excuses for the giant cancer eating away at the heart of modern conservatism".

M-DEEM - 2017-10-16

No I mean adults. Mature people of all races who manage just fine in this mean ol' country

M-DEEM - 2017-10-17

And what is it with you guys and "pieces of shit" anyway? You could make a 2 hour comp of black-clad sadfolk yelling only that and "fuck you". I want something fresh like "shit chugging flag spooner" or "gingerdicked gun strumpet." Don't be afraid to use your imagination

SolRo - 2017-10-17

I save creative insults for people that are worth it.

M-DEEM - 2017-10-17

Haha no you don't! Glad your still with us. From your first reply I thought you were too drunk to continue

SolRo - 2017-10-17

No point in pouring the fancy salt on a slug.

yogarfield - 2017-10-17

Fun fact: Fancy salt is a lie!

SolRo - 2017-10-17

fanciness is based on perception not actual quality or superiority.

garcet71283 - 2017-10-17

I like this movie.

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

This posting isn't about the movie. It's about shit happening right now. I'm so angry!!!!!!!!!

Bort - 2017-10-17

Odysseus and his men disguised as sheep to sneak away from the cyclops. Didn't quite blind him with a spear this time, though.

Marlon Brawndo - 2017-10-17

Those guys are way smarter than your average Antifa protester. But then so is a drooling retarded chihuahua that's been kicked in the head a few times.

Marlon Brawndo - 2017-10-17

Also I'm pretty sure Elphaba was the only one who would join Anifa.

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2017-10-17

It's a good thing when Nazis protest. Get them out in the open so we can all see them. i support that.

Marlon Brawndo - 2017-10-17

I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been a mass shooting at a KKK rally yet. They are pretty easy to target.

Gaseous_Planet - 2017-10-17

If anyone listens to NPR or podcasts, I think that this one is pretty interesting: https://www.revealnews.org/episodes/rise-of-a-movement/

The host, Al Letson, actually stopped Antifa from beating up an alt-right organizer at a protest a few weeks back, then went on to interview a few people from both sides. Letson's ego shows through a bit too much in my opinion, but the interviews give a lot of perspective on the argument.

Old_Zircon - 2017-10-17

Leaving all o the political business aside, am I the only one who found this movie really disappointing coming after their previous stuff? It was fun but it looked ugly (thanks, color grading!) and just seemed like a case of the concept overshadowing the actual execution, and also George Clooney was kind of not that good in it.

Anaxagoras - 2017-10-17

Both my wife and I love this movie, and it's one of my favorite Coen brothers movie. In particular, I love Clooney's performance. I know it sounds like I'm just being contrarian, but, well, it's honestly what I think. And you did ask.

But I see what you mean about the weird color issues. I always thought that was part of the movie's charm, giving it the feel of a black-and-white film (time-era appropriate) w/out actually being black and white. But I can see how somebody might view it as just plain ugly.

Anaxagoras - 2017-10-17

Also, my wife and I have found the line "You're dumber than a bag full of hammers" incredibly quotable.

Bort - 2017-10-17

Batman is modern day Odysseus, and Clooney played both an inferior Batman and an inferior Odysseus.

But I like this film just fine. The Great Depression and the Odyssey are a strange conceptual fit, but I think they found a way to make them fit as well as anyone could. Like I said above, this scene is Odysseus sneaking his men out from the cave of Polyphemus by disguising them as sheep; that's more than a little clever, and the GOOD kind of clever.

The lotus-eater scene (the baptism) was particularly effective.

Bort - 2017-10-17

"I love Clooney's performance."

He really does a great job as a guy who is clever but not quite as clever as he thinks he is. Ulysses Everett McGill would have fit in just fine on the Internet.

memedumpster - 2017-10-17

The line "lots of respectable people get hit by trains" was enough to make it worth it for me.

15th - 2017-10-17

They're ANTI-fascists. It's right in the name. Got a problem with NEETS dispensing violence at their personal discretion for word/ideology crimes? Hmmm, what's an ANTI-ANTI-Fascist called?

Cena_mark - 2017-10-17

A fascist.

15th - 2017-10-17

Bingo

Commander Tugboat - 2017-10-17

Who invited all the bitchtit nazis to this site, holy shit.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-10-18

ikr?

bawbag - 2017-10-18

LOL

All the old nazi defender faves are out, even a guest appearance from you-know-who's latest alt, who literally can't help but reveal himself. Shoulda stayed away dude.
