0:14 At least all that shooting didn't make that guy spill his beer.

I'm with you.

Sometimes it is better not to know every little detail.

Old_Zircon - 2017-10-03

Same here, although I'd like to point out that the "faces of death" analogy doesn't really work because, unlike most of the footage in Faces of Death, this is real.

I won't post it, but this video is pretty remarkable;

people sheltering while trying to help a gunshot victim, while the fear and chaos still swirls, featuring a young woman with bigger balls than I

You know America is Great when it has to teach its children the difference between the sound of fireworks and the sound of gunfire.

I was at the independence day public concert in a Houston public park this year.

Apparently it's tradition to play the 1812 overture. A weird choice politically but I do like it. They usually have some kind of restored civil war cannons shooting blanks for it, but this year they couldn't get the cannons.

So instead they plant pyrotechnics on the ground, the kind that only make a bang and not a flash. They have 2-3 of these little piles of little bombs on the ground throughout the field, surrounded only by orange plastic fencing. None of the sites have any labelling or warning.

There are people (with children) sitting on the grass enjoying the concert literally leaning against the orange fencing. They are about 5 ft from the little piles of little bombs.

The song starts up, and it gets to the cannon bits. There was crying, there were people who didn't know the song that reasonably through the terrorists had taken this moment to strike, and there was lots of permanent hearing damage. When most people weren't running around freaking out, everyone else realized it was part of the song. Still there were people looking shellshocked at the end of that concert.

Unlike some totalitarian socialist countries, America gives you the freedom to be a mass murderer or a victim of a mass murderer!

So, it's looking like this guy had been planning this and knew his way around guns while at the same time wanted to avoid capture for as long as possible, so I'm curious: why didn't he use a suppressor on the gun?
I know that suppressors used in longer range shooting tend to have adverse effects on the accuracy and such, but it doesn't seem like the performance was really important to this guy if all he was doing was randomly shooting into a crowd. So, it seems weird that for all his planning and hoarding an arsenal, he didn't commit the shootings more quietly.

Gmork - 2017-10-03

Most suppressors aren't designed to handle continuous full-auto firing and the baffles might fail. Not actually sure how a baffle fails, but that's what some gun nerds I know were saying. Then again, there are some old Maxim suppressors over 100 years old that still function, so.....

I basically can't answer your question to either your or my satisfaction.

Fuckin' min/maxers

May that be my darkest joke of the year - did not watch

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-10-04

Continuous fire is harder on a suppressor, but the bigger thing is that you can still hear the shots pretty well.

A suppressor does almost nothing unless you're using subsonic ammo, as the supersonic "crack" is much louder than the gunshot itself. Subsonic ammo has a much shorter effective range, and even if that's what you're using... you can still hear shots pretty well. Suppressors are really to obfuscate your location from people outside your line of fire, but they won't work for long if you stay in one spot and keep firing, and they won't work at all for people you're shooting at.
