ironically, all of the conspiracy theorists and false flag lovers won't care about this story

memedumpster - 2017-07-08

Segment starts : "We can't show these super duper secret docs to security folks because seeing them in our hands makes them legally have to act on them."

Segment ends : " We ahowed these super duper fake docs to tons of security folks who all said they were fake."

This is an obvious setup for the inevitable " oh no, Russia is fakezor newez not because we all lied our fucking asses off to the world, but because we were all lied to by docufakers!"

Obvious fake news is obvious. Anti-information voter partisans cut their balls off for the comet predictably on cue.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-08

I can't tell whether you're doing a bit or whether you skipped the 18 minutes or so of detailed explanation of how they demonstrated in-house, with pretty high certainty, that it is a forged document and also the parts where none of the things you characterized as happening in this video happened in this video.

I'll go with "doing a bit" because that's a pretty decent impression of how /r/The_Donald types will explain this if they even bother.

jangbones - 2017-07-08

Greenwald and The Intercept is disputing Maddow's explanation

https://theintercept.com/2017/07/07/rachel-maddows-exclusive-s coop-about-a-fake-nsa-document-raises-several-key-questions/

we are not living in productive or positive times

Bort - 2017-07-08

I'm proud to say I despised Greenwald before it was cool.

His lying about the public option and why it failed was enough for me to realize he is a shitstain.

exy - 2017-07-08

Greenwald's points are entirely on-point in that response.

Bort - 2017-07-09

Maybe. I know I don't listen to Gruenwald because I know he is a liar; if he told me the sky was blue I'd assume he had an agenda.

https://thedailybanter.com/2017/01/officially-discount-greenwa ld-on-russian-hacks/

I'm not opposed to debunking Rachel Maddow, I just find him no more trustworthy than Trump.

TheSupafly - 2017-07-08

Brevity is the soul of wit Rachel, this could have been a concise 7 minute story. A very interesting and maybe important one, but I really hate grumbling to myself more than once "get to the point already" while waiting through the journalistic equivalent of a freshman trying to meet the 5 page minimum essay quota.

Hooker - 2017-07-08

Jesus Christ, seriously. This is a vlogger, not a reporter.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-07-08

Couldn't have put that better myself, Supafly (grin).

Bort - 2017-07-08

Hey OW, check these out:

I ordered some of these, they seem like they could be all right. Inexpensive and a lot of room, though not particularly "dense". I still like these best:

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-07-08

Link number two is the way to go. Why memorialize your signal path sins with link one?

Bort - 2017-07-09

I don't know, that first one has some charms the second clearly lacks, for example post holes that can be connected to a ground.

That said, I agree that the second one is more versatile and is generally the best option, especially for small projects (since you can break the board in four). I can see uses for both, though.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-07-10

I usually work the boards with a dremel tool or two, rarely do I color inside the lines. Board #1 is way too formal. My ideal would be an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet with a repeating pattern across the whole face. Dice with a dremel saw to size as needed.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2018-05-15

You can criticize Rachel Maddow's style, but you should be embarrassed to suggest that repackaging would make a story "interesting" or "important". It either is or it isn't.

Maggot Brain - 2017-07-08

The thin line between non-news and fake news.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2017-07-08

Nicely put

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-08

We used to have experts, but the experts became inexpedient, so we all decided all know what we're talking about, all the time, and that has not served us any better.

StanleyPain - 2017-07-08

The problem with this story is that Maddow, as much as I like her, often forgets that basically most of the American public is fucking clueless when it comes to the Trump/Russia treason and how his whole family are basically fucking traitor scum that should be up against a wall somewhere, so when she drops bombs and expects them to leave a crater, she fails to understand that you have to follow some of the background shit to understand why this is a big deal so she really should spend 25 minutes explaining THAT instead of this bullshit posturing thing she does.
Most Americans have a very poor understanding of the depth of what is going on and just how deep the whole Russia rabbit hole really goes, which is largely due to our gutless fucking media who are more interested in letting Trump yank their chain instead of staying on target.
But if it's true that phony documents like this are going out to the media (which various reliable rumors seem to indicate) it's a pretty big deal because it seems to sort of confirm a lot of other rumors. At this point, there seems to be a pretty good chance that the Mueller investigation will result in prosecutions by the end of the year (note: they are hiring prosecutors now, not investigators, and have applied for the kind of government funding and oversight that a commission with charges to level would need) and the fairly reliable, sneaky rumors are that in addition to the financial nonsense Trump has been engaging in, Mueller's investigation has discovered solid evidence of direct collusion between Trump's campaign and Russians to specifically alter the 2016 election. What is in debate is *who* exactly is going to be the initial target. Word floating around is that this FAKE document is attempting to get the media to implicate Jared Kushner (which would play into the theory that Trump is setting him up to take most of the fall, re-establish allegiances with Bannon, and go back to his old circle) when, in actuality, the evidence points more directly to Bannon et al. Basically, a lot of people are in line to be thrown under a very big bus and it seems that, judging from the insanely racist, imperialist, white nationalist-dog whistle speech about "defending the West" that Trump gave in Poland, he is back being besties with Bannon and that crew, who only a few weeks ago looked like they might be losing favor with the inner circle or whatever. So, the real story here is less the phony document (though that's a big deal too) and more *who* is doing it and *why* and what it ironically ends up confirming about the rumors coming out of Washington right now.

betabox - 2017-07-08

He's going to make America great again.

What you said couldn't possibly fit on a hat or a bumper sticker. Ergo, we're well and truly fucked.

Caminante Nocturno - 2017-07-09

That is the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen written on this site.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-09

This is the woman who

Bort - 2017-07-09

really cooked?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-09

covfefe.

My browser sort of went dark. Too much multitasking, I guess. I only paid 60 dollars for this old computer, including shipping.

Stars for Bort. Thanks for the baby-boomer specific pop-culture reference. It helped me feel at home.

Bort - 2017-07-09

When I was a young kid and "Maude" was in its first run, I didn't understand the theme song, and as far as I could tell it was a song about trouble-making women throughout history. Turns out I was a Bro before I had strong opinions on women.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-09

I don't fully understand this story, the Intercept's response, or all of the grousing that's been going on in these comments. Here's what i know.

I love this woman for being boring. This is the woman Sean Hannity, a delusional media drama queen if ever there was has one, has described as a "tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist." A few months ago, she tweeted that she had some Trump tax returns, and then the same day, she calmly and objectively reported on them. There was no smoking gun. It was pretty boring, and social media reacted badly. The left felt cheated. the Right was mocking her for her supposed failed with hunt. (The Right neglected to mention that, unlike the GOPs nine congressional inquiries into Benghazi Maddow's report took one hour, and cost the taxpayers nothing, )

But the funny thing is that, even after all the shit that Maddow was taking from angry trolls, her rating started to go up. And after watching this, I can see why. I love that she just talks for 20 minutes. It's like watching John Oliver, without the jokes. And that means you can watch it and be informed without being terrified. I love the way she avoids making conclusions about whether Trump is in bed with Putin. I love the way she makes sure to let us know that there's nothing inherently wrong with the Intercept taking a position`

Mostly, of course, i love her for not taking the bait.

I think it's important to note that, even if someone is using fake documents about Russia to try to discredit journalists, that doesn't necessarily mean that the trump campaign colluded with Russia.

I hope we don't get too invested in the Russia thing, because I'm sure there will be more. I think we can expect a steady drumpfbeat of scandals, lies, and erratic behavior for as long as President Clownshoes remains in office.

Bort - 2017-07-09

I have to admit, a big part of me doesn't even give a damn that Russia tried to game our election via a misinformation campaign. We've been flooding ourselves with misinformation for years now. Glenn Greenwald has been doing his level best since 2009 to paint the Democrats as an enemy so vile that no man of good conscience would support, and I don't think Russia bought him out; as far as I can tell he's a home-grown shithead.

If the Left wants to have a shot at enacting its agenda, first thing the Left needs to do is stop treating blind cynicism as a virtue. Skepticism is valuable and admirable, but if you categorically reject any outcomes where the Democrats are mostly on your side or perhaps simply disagree with you -- if the only conclusion you will accept is that the Democrats are corrupt and/or evil -- all you're doing is hurting the guys who are more or less on your side, and helping the guys who are diametrically opposed to what you want.

I mentioned Greenwald above; Greenwald has become so cynical about America that he has become a cheerleader for Putin. That's where blind cynicism leads: blind faith in something worse. Cynicism and faith aren't the problem; blindness is.
