so 90% of the jokes were written for 40 year olds?

RedRust - 2017-05-27

Back when I was in 7th grade there was a 20-something year old man who said exactly this about the cartoon.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-05-27

Weird time in cartoon history. The Tiny Toons staff was a lot of Kricfalusi associates that were Bakshi students. Bruce Timm got lucky... he was bold enough to stride into Tim Burton's office and get the Burton Seal of Approval, thus snagging what was otherwise going to be a standard update of the Superfriends style of show. The other Bakshi students kept banging away at pitching Nicktoons, and Nickelodeon wasn't buying yet (it was limited to the Holy Trinity of Ren and Stimpy/Doug/Rugrats). Spielberg supposedly let the writing staff dominate the show, which led to the animators feeling minimized. The smart ones jumped to Disney to do Goof Troop and work the ladder of the Korean slave labor management, and the dumb ones hitched their star to Kricfalusi and got steamrolled two years later during The Freak Outâ„¢.

Oh crap. Brainfart. I was referring to Animaniacs, but I guess Tiny Toons applies too...

Caminante Nocturno - 2017-05-27

Animaniacs took everything wrong with this show and made it worse.

I mean, except for the "furries" thing, which you can't really directly blame on the show itself anyway.

Kid Fenris - 2017-05-29

What's the Freak Out?

blue vein steel - 2017-05-27

I'm 34, so i was in the target demo for this show and i remember watching it quite a bit. I grew up watching pretty much nothing but old WB shorts, MST3k, Ren & Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead, etc... so I didn't think twice about Perry Mason and Charles Laughton jokes at the time, but looking back now, it all seem rather weird for a kids show

cognitivedissonance, that's intersting and explains a lot

I grew up watching this show but now every time I see it I feel nothing but this weird overwhelming sense of distaste. I can't decide if that's thanks to what furries have done, or that the show was garbage and I was too dumb to know it as a kid.

They're simultaneously lazy and trying too hard, like a child whose precociousness has hit a point of diminishing returns. Fine Jimmy, we understand you don't pronounce "spaghetti" properly, work on some new material.

Xenocide - 2017-05-28

Tiny Toons might be the most hit-or-miss cartoon ever made. This is thanks to the practice of farming the animation work out to a dozen different studios with widely different quality standards, coupled with the writing staff being all over the place in terms of talent. Some episodes look unwatchably hideous, others look better than most cartoons being broadcast today. It's all over the map in terms of quality but there's still about ten episodes or so out of the 100 they made which are genuinely fantastic.

Maggot Brain - 2017-05-27

Once again surprised that they haven't brought this back but from what understand it's mess of interwoven copyrights. The Jews would have a feild day!

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-05-28

I'm sure a ((((((((((Reboot)))))))))) is imminent.

Caminante Nocturno - 2017-05-27

I'm trying to think of a show that has aged worse than Tiny Toons and nothing's coming up.

Rangoon - 2017-05-28

Animaniacs?

Caminante Nocturno - 2017-05-28

Yeah, that really should have been the first show I thought of.

blue vein steel - 2017-05-28

the pinky and the brain bits are still ok
