A 28-yr old man repeating the most offensive word he could think of, justifies it by saying he was tired and the other guy cheated.

SolRo - 2017-04-24

Really? 28?

Well, I'm sure he has a good education or skill-based career he can fall back on now that no major company will touch his toxic ass.

The Mothership - 2017-04-24

NSFW.

infinite zest - 2017-04-25

yeah this isn't TF2!

Gmork - 2017-04-24

I think I fought this guy in overwatch the other day. Or maybe it was another random individual screaming into the mic and yelling "NIGGER" over and over again.

Gmork - 2017-04-24

PS I actually _did_ run into that infowars guy... same icon, same audio from his mic..

He was in a party with a guy called "trumptrain". I made sure they lost.

Meerkat - 2017-04-24

I fucking hate online gamers. It used to be better, way back when. Or maybe it wasn't and I just don't remember all the bullshit. Or maybe I was more tolerant of bullshit. But I think it got shitty around the middle of the Quake 2 CTF days.

Xenocide - 2017-04-24

I'd probably be way more into games like Overwatch if they just did away with the "interact with the sort of people who play games like Overwatch" part.

Meerkat - 2017-04-24

For a while I played Dota 2 online by just muting everyone else as soon as the game started but that didn't really work.

15th - 2017-04-24

R6S, Hit me UP

15th - 2017-04-24

Rainbow Six Siege is pretty amazing. Kinda a steep learning curve, but worth it.

I've been playing it for about a year, and I can count on one hand how many times I've been called a nigger or a faggot, which is pretty impressive.

SolRo - 2017-04-24

First things to do after you install a new online game;

Adjust your video settings to how you want them.

Change control mapping to your preference.

Mute all voice chat.

garcet71283 - 2017-04-24

It was better back in the day. Mainly because you had to be able to type to communicate and that demands at least a minimal command of a language and had a way of filtering out some of the stupid.

Raggamuffin - 2017-04-24

I think it was better back in the day, because if it was possible to become a pro at all, there wasn't any money in it anyway. So the only people you'd find who were playing online games all day were really laid back weed smokers and such. At least that's the way I remember it from playing on pubs in my counter-strike days.

Also you used to be able to run your own server, so the admins were right there keeping an eye on their own back yard. Different servers had different cultures, so if you were more casual you could stay away from the more serious servers and (usually, not always) avoid spazzy freak outs.

The last time I've really touched online gaming was Rocket League, a game about toy cars with rocket engines on them playing soccer. My rando teammate was yelling at me for not playing up to his standards on defense. When I urged him to relax because it's just a game, he became incensed and scored an own-goal, ostensibly to teach me a lesson. We lost by one goal.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-04-24

R6 Siege is a game I want to love, but every time I play I encounter bad rubber banding and random drops, and that's with a ping of around 60. Their servers are just terrible for an online-only game!

StanleyPain - 2017-04-24

Overwatch blows, IMO. Way unbalanced classes, too many classes, bullshit "loot" system geared towards people who pay money which makes the TF2 and CSGO boxes seem almost reasonable. Oh, and it's $60 with no fucking single player which is a trend that everyone should just be saying "fuck you" to. Everytime I watch a game of Overwatch on twitch or beam (usually someone I know is playing), it is a complete clusterfuck of the worst online gamer stereotypes distilled into a concentrated shit liquid that makes most CoD matches look sane and reasoned by comparison.

The thing with online gaming is the audience. Nowadays, it's pretty easy to locate communities that cater solely to ordinary people who just want to have fun and aren't sperglord fuckheads. (gamers with jobs is probably one of the best places for "adults" to find people who play X title)

Xbox has a thing now where you can create custom hubs now too which is great for finding people who play whatever game and are not idiots. Rainbow Six probably has a better community because the game is heavily tactical and not "run around and shoot people while yelling faggot" or whatever.

Gmork - 2017-04-24

Few things, Stanley:

-Everything got balanced and it's pretty good at the moment.
-I have a shitton of 'premium' skins that i didnt pay any money for, just opened loot boxes you earn from leveling up. I swear, I get a legendary every other day.
-It has a single player function now. Well, that is to say, it has something very akin to the MannCo Bots for TF2 - and the squad is only four players. It's cooperative, and I don't think you can have AI teammates, but you are most certainly fighting hundreds and hundreds of AI enemies in a cooperative setting, so that is definitely going to interest some people who otherwise wouldn't care.
-Overwatch is neither better nor worse than the CoD community as far as asshats go - and actually if you're on higher tier competitive matches like I am (platinum) almost every single person uses a mic and is reasonably accomodating if you would prefer they switch their character (which is what almost 100% of all overwatch drama hinges on - team composition).

I mean I get where you're coming from.. maybe it's because you're playing on console? I mean, PCs have become more popular with the 'plebs' these days so the maturity one USED to be able to almost expect in a PC gaming environment has been infected with extra vitriol over the last decade.

StanleyPain - 2017-04-24

Sounds like you are describing a horde mode? If that's the case, that's pretty cool and all and I would probably play that (I love horde mode, Mann Vs. Machine in TF2 is some of the most fun I've had in an online game in eons), but without legit single player (play vs. bots as much as you want in any mode), I think it's bullshit any game charges full price. I mean, clearly people enjoy Overwatch and that's great that it seems to actually be a full game (which is at least something), but most games that are $60 and online only are usually just frame works to sell another $40-50 of DLC shit that should have been in the game from the beginning (example: Star Wars Battlefront).

cognitivedissonance - 2017-04-25

Hearthstone is unplayable at this stage. Unless you're willing to pony down several hundred dollars a season to buy the overpowered meta system gimmick decks, you will not be progressing in Ranked play, period, and then after a year those cards you bought are removed from play and you have to do it again. It's for rich kids only.

Redford - 2017-04-25

If you're looking for a casual card game, wait until Gwent enters open beta, play that.

badideasinaction - 2017-04-25

Solution to assholes playing overwatch; play overwatch on console. I can count on one hand the number of times I've heard voice chat. And most of those were on a free preview weekend. No screaming, just the occasional guy overthinking a game strategy.

Gmork - 2017-04-26

Overwatch on console? That's like doing surgery wearing baseball gloves on both hands. The reason you aren't hearing people isn't because you're on console, it's because you haven't figure out about team chat vs group chat vs lobby chat. It's the same on console as it is on PC in that respect.

infinite zest - 2017-04-26

A solution to both is Goldeneye Source. Of all the Soure-related stuff, it seems the most untarnished and people are still playing it last time I checked.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-04-24

Every online game I've played has somebody saying something racist or intentionally offensive every five minutes.

poorwill - 2017-04-25

I had a gay flatmate who constantly screamed at people online that they were faggots idgi

Quad9Damage - 2017-04-25

I never do multiplayer. Mostly because I need to adjust and move at my own pace. I would slow a team down with my occasional ineptitude. Do you know how many times I've accidentally fired one of my Vigors in Bioshock: Infinite?

Then there are these types who hide behind the safety of their keyboards and bedroom walls. Fuck em, I walk alone.

Nikon - 2017-04-25

I don't mind multiplayer if I know the people involved, but most of the time I'd rather play solo. If a game doesn't have a single player mode, I don't buy it.

infinite zest - 2017-04-25

Yeah I bought it because I only had a XBox One at the time and unless you actually track down a physical copy of Orange Box for 360 for TF2, Overwatch was the only TF2-esque game that I could play (besides TF2 on my shitty PC) so the price didn't bother me: I'd spent at least 10 bucks over the years on TF2 and I'll probably want more characters, since I would've probably bought in on I that because I don't care about what my guy is wearing as much as he plays. And Overwatch is fun for that. If you want clothes and poses and stuff that's fine, but the characters and their entire skillsets are free with admission.

In hindsight, I don't know. I also sort of bought Overwatch assuming that I could transfer my shit XBone over - if not the loot then at least my skill level!! - once I got a new PC, which I since have. I understand the separation: console gamers are less skillful overall but you have less mics, hence less of this. PC gamers, are, well I play TF2 a lot and this is about as common as feedback from some asshole who has his volume set too loud. And when you turn off chat, there's plenty of other ways for assholes to be assholes to the point where you leave the match, something that's not really possible without hotkeys and macros and whatnot.

A single-player campaign would be great though. I've been playing OW for a long time and even I'm not sure what the fuck is going on until I'm in a match. "Skirmish" is actually pretty fun, just running around, communicating or killing, and it would be extra fun to include an option to stay in that mode and train, play with bots, stuff like that, instead of get auto-kicked out into a game just when you find something cool. The world is actually more detailed than almost any single-player FPS I can think of.

For the time being there's Paladins, which is the SMITE people basically doing Overwatch. It's the best I can describe of as a mix between what I like about TF2 and OW, with very little I don't like actually. And Cliffy B has Lawbreakers, which will probably be better than all three, if history repeats itself anyway.

kingarthur - 2017-04-25

This reminds me why I dropped out of video games totally right after GTA: Vice City, which was the only game I played frequently since the original Doom more than likely.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-04-25

That's like saying you stopped watching movies entirely after Wild Wild West, and this trailer for Star Wars Sequel only cements your decision.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2017-05-01

I was about to make the following comment, but then realized I was literally commiting joke theft from Barack Obama.

Original zinger:

"See Barack, there are black folk, and then there are niggers."
"Much as there are white folk, and then there are ignorant motherfuckers like you."

My proposed comment that I am shelving for the moment:

"There are white folk, and then there are people who play any video game online for any length of time, including people who play one time just to see what it's like."
