Only some bites may contain cheese!

Drive in theaters and miniature golf courses together make up about 95 percent of what I consider nostalgia. If I won the lottery, I would buy a drive in theater and live in a studio apartment on the roof of the snack bar.

The old against me winning the lottery are long, and made slightly longer by the fact that I don't play the lottery. But only slightly longer.

My plan, if I win the lottery, is to build an "indoor" drive-in.

It would be a large open space, like a factory warehouse. with a big screen at one end and the snack bar at the other. The area between would look like blacktop, except it would be that thick rubber they use on playgrounds.

The "seats" would be booths designed to look like old cars from the 40s, 50s & 60s. The doors would be wired for sound and a touchscreen in the dash would let people order snacks & have them brought right out to their "car." People could also sit at tables out in front of the snack bar.

Down below the screen would be a wall of dark-tinted, double-paned windows dividing off a little indoor playground for small rambunctious kids. Screens inside the playground would also play the movie so parents can watch the rugrats and the flick.

The ceiling would be decorated to look like a night sky complete with twinkling stars. The walls would look like a fence with tall shrubs & trees growing beyond it. The HVAC system would be configured to give the feel of a random gentle breeze. little speakers would be hidden around to play ambient night sounds such as crickets, frogs & nocturnal bird calls.

Patrons would enter & exit through doors on either side of the snack bar. The lobby walls would be a museum dedicated to old movies. There would also be a retro coin-op arcade. Next door would be a multilevel parking garage with a green roof as well as wind & solar energy collection.

I would show new films, of course, but a lot of time would be devoted to older movies. Not necessarily, "classics" but also those good old cheesy flicks film nerds love. I'd try to combine them with classic shorts and old retro ads like these.

Of course, I never play the lottery.

Disney tried something similar to this as a restaurant model in one of their theme parks. But like most things at Disney theme parks, the expectation/disappointment ratio was insignificant.

Is it pizza week?

cognitivedissonance - 2017-03-27

It's always Pizza Week.

*sad middle aged failure*

Binro the Heretic - 2017-03-27

I once made a pizza roll pizza.

Well, I cooked a frozen Totino's cheese pizza and put cooked Jeno's pizza rolls on top of it.

In my defense, I was 13 at the time.

Jizza rolls?

I once made a pizza roll pizza on a bagel bite crust. In my defense, I was 28 at the time

Are those really the biggest sizes you can get?

Binro the Heretic - 2017-03-28

Those were made in the age before the era of the gluttonous pig.

Raggamuffin - 2017-03-28

These days that would hardly be considered a slice

I don't really go for ethnic food.

Scrimmjob - 2017-03-28

I really like the "Voila" hand motion from the shlub making the pizza at 0:40.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-28

I had a girlfriend whose grandmother, a first generation Italian immigrant, was relentlessly tormented on the playground in grade school because she "ate pie with tomatoes on it" which was completely incomprehensible.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2017-03-29

Pizza has made the future a much better place.
