The KKK sent him one fruit basket too many.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-03-25

Niggermania!

Simillion - 2017-03-25

I am five starring this to agree with the poster that his jokes were weak and he is out of touch.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-25

To be fair, even in his prime his comedy was pretty consistently sexist and homophobic, it was just that it was also well played.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-25

Also he's a middle class kid from the suburbs who became rich and famous, just like Kanye, so it's not really surprising he'd be a bit out of touch.

SolRo - 2017-03-25

Statistically, even if he was from the poorest, most violent ghetto, he'd likely still have the same views. The African American community is highly religious and not very tolerant of what Christian dogma tells them is evil (see tyler perry)

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-26

I'm actually about to head out to a poetry reading coproduced by a middle aged, interracial gay couple I know, I'll be sure to ask them for their insights into "the African American community" which is, of course, a monolith.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-26

I actually I misspoke, they're a bit older than middle age, I just reflexively consider anyone who's about halfway between my age and my parents' age "middle aged" but I think these guy would technically just qualify as "boomers" so if you see this in the next five minutes maybe you could throw in some generalizations about how "baby boomers are ruining the country and put trump in the white house" for me to ask them about, too. I know those are popular around here.

SolRo - 2017-03-26

So everyone should ignore real statistics because there are outliers?

Way to trump up the place

SolRo - 2017-03-26

Also I'd like to point out you generalized about middle class black people and then threw an outrage fit over me citing statistics

bongoprophet - 2017-03-26

any huge and diverse group could have 0,03 percent more strangling murders and people would be "only quoting statistics" if it served their perceived bigger narrative to say that group X are a bunch of stranglers

this in turn of course leads to more generalization and racism while doing nothing to stop stranglings

socio-economic factors are where it is at, not race. not in the grand scheme of things.

simon666 - 2017-03-27

SolRo, you said "statistically" in your first comment, but failed to cite any statistics. Rather you tried to lean on a stereotype correlation about being religious and bigoted. Maybe you're right that the black community is more prejudiced against the LGBTQ community than some other cultural groups, but you have not shown it and certainly have not evidenced it with statistics or your stereotype correlation.

Known from prop 8 in California which passed despite a large Democratic Party turnout, due to a much larger than usual number of Hispanic and black voters participating.

I thought OZ would know stuff like this before making dumb assumptions about black people

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-25

Hmm, I had three people recommend this to me today.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-03-25

It wasn't bad on a whole, this is probably his least amusing bit... I haven't watched the other one he released.

Anaxagoras - 2017-03-25

Yeah, the show as a whole was pretty OK. Not fantastic, but pretty good.

Although he has much of his old rhythm & timing from before his sabbatical, a lot of his jokes felt surprisingly stale.

I dunno. I wouldn't really *recommend* this show, but I don't regret having spent an hour watching it.

15th - 2017-03-25

Apparently he shares an agent with Harper Lee.

giygusattack - 2017-03-26

I liked this special, I think he's still shaking off some rust and this material is at least a few years old which probably helps it feel more out of touch. The least endearing thing to me is when he starts calling out Key and Peele, like they stole his ideas or something. I don't think you get to leave the spotlight like that and complain if someone starts jumping that claim.

kingarthur - 2017-03-26

He did the Caitlin Jenner bit in New Orleans and then remarked that "this is why I have you lock up your cell phones before my show. So I can make homophobic jokes and then reinvent myself later.".

But hey, Chris Tucker and Hannibal Burress were there too so it was a good show.

kingofthenothing - 2017-03-26

You know, I never thought about the Q.

I just figured I'm not one of them, so it's not up to me to figure that shit out.

He's right about the T standing for "tough road ahead" though. Just read the Youtube comments to this video to see what hate really looks like.

Hooker - 2017-03-26

Qs are the people who, since we all know you're born with your sexual preferences, were born with that field left blank.

bac - 2017-03-26

What Hooker said. Also, and the nuances of it can be debated, but on the whole, The gay community as a whole has always been pretty excepting of people's, gender and sexuality, not all of which have always had distinct terms or labels. Hence the Q.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-03-26

Whole show was stale. I don't care how charming it is when he smiles, slumps a bit, and takes a couple steps backward like, "I can't believe I said that!" Only works if he actually said something outrageous.

Chocolate Jesus - 2017-03-26

fuck caitlyn jenner, he's a dick chopping murdering socialite who never did anything good for anybody

i hope somebody rips that stupid rubber mask right off his evil face

you have to be a person before you can be a trans person

bac - 2017-03-26

Fuck you.

Is Caytlyn Jenner a worthless person with little to no merit who's only famous because of reality TV? and a highlight of America's problem of glorifying famous people just because they're famous? Pretty much.

Where was I? oh yeah, Fuck You, Caytlin Jenner is A 'She' not a He, and whatever the hell she chooses to do with her genitals is none of your fucking business.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2017-03-26

Caitlyn Jenner killed someone with his car.

Also, he never chopped his dick off.

bac - 2017-03-26

Just to clarify, call A worthless sack of shit a worthless sack of shit for being a worthless sack of shit. Is Caitlin Jenner a worthless sack of shit? Yes. but if you decide to get all transphobic with your remarks as to said worthless sack of shit you're a Fucker.

@ROUS, she and her, because she is a woman you bullheaded twit. and the status of her, or anyone elses, genitals is of zero regard, you creepy reprobate.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-03-26

I have a dream,
that one day,
Michael Brown,
and OJ.

Chocolate Jesus - 2017-03-26

hey i'm a transphile dude :3

Chocolate Jesus - 2017-03-26

oh let me correct myself, SHE is a devil in a cadaver flesh robe

bac - 2017-03-26

damn right she is.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2017-03-27

oh man I really want to pair you with Austin Powers in a skit where he rips off Caitlyn Jenner's hair and screams "It's a MAN, baby!" and you stab him to death for being transphobic.

that would be funny, because it would be commenting on reality.

Chocolate Jesus - 2017-03-29

oh get out of here you actual bigot

shouldn't you be wringing your hands over creeping sharia or something?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2017-03-29

Why don't you ask Caitlyn Jenner? I'm sure he would love to live under sharia law where he'd be stoned to death.

Chocolate Jesus - 2017-03-29

إِن شَاء اَللّٰه

bac - 2017-03-26

Lots of problems with the bit? absolutely.

I think the question is, was the bit done in good faith?
And the answer there is, yes. Could it have been better? Yup.

I've had the opinion for awhile that progressives don't always pick their battles as well as they could (Patton oswalt does a good bit on it in talking for clapping). Like is chapelle deserving of criticism for the execution of this? oh hell yes, is chapelle an enemy for doing it? fuck no, because it was done in good faith. Not that I've heard calls for him being called an enemy, but plenty of people are writing him off for it, and I mean it's their own choice, but, it's Dave Chapelle, how about giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-03-26

Problem is he's just not funny. I stared blankly throughout most of this show, and started counting the number of times he mentions was a famous, successful guy he is. I don't think he's an "enemy" (whatever that means to you), but he is boring, out of touch, and comfortable mocking people less successful than himself. And I think those qualities are at the root of more bigotry than any considered ideology.

Dave Chapelle has joined the ranks of those relatives at the table, possibly your dad and his brothers, whom nobody interrupts when he fumbles to explain something everyone else already understands, because he's used to being the centre of attention.

bac - 2017-03-26

Not caring and lazy is hurtful and dangerous, I agree, that it is, and those people are assholes. I think that when that gets amplified to being an enemy, it lessons the impact of discussing people who actively seek to do harm verbally, emotionally and physically.

I haven't watched the specials yet just this clip...I'll prepare myself to be dissapointed.

So, I can only speak to this clip, but I don't think everybody already knows what the Q in lgbtq stands for, nor do I think people realize that transexuals have the farthest mental bridge to gap to find an equal footing in America. And his target audience here (in this bit) isn't, everybody, it's young adult African Americans, specifically young adult black men. when I say chapelle was acting in good faith I literally mean he was trying to speak to homophobic and transphobic black men, and telling them "hey, you may not get them, but I Dave Chapelle [a cultural black icon] am up here saying they're alright."

That being said I do need to go watch the whole thing so I'm not talking entirely out of my ass.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2017-03-27

None of this was phobic at all.

Anaxagoras - 2017-03-30

You're right; it wasn't. Not really. It was just him working through his thoughts on the matter.

The problem is, it wasn't terribly funny either. Nor was it insightful. It was just kinda.... there.
