OH MY FUCKING GOD. I REMEMBER THIS, but only from the TV series. I also remember a print book with these characters. This game looks like it was the hardest game in the history of games.

fedex - 2017-03-16

actually it was super-easy, just like Space Ace, you just had to remember which direction to go at what moment. That's it.

fedex - 2017-03-16

that being said, I spent a lot of quarters learning those moves.

Raggamuffin - 2017-03-16

I don't know what it was like on an arcade machine, but on a segacd it was terrible. The timing is unforgiving, but the the segacd controls were often non-responsive.

Princess had better be hot is all I'm saying.

The Mothership - 2017-03-16

Wait, my memory is coming back a bit. I think I had the lunchbox rather than a print book.

The Mothership - 2017-03-17

Also princess is totally hot.

Quad9Damage - 2017-03-17

I had this on PC from one of those "20 CD-ROM games for $20!" packages in the mid '90s. The directions were mapped to keys I never figured out. I remember giving up fairly quickly. Come to think of it, that was the case with a lot of games in the box.

Ninehells - 2017-03-16

This fucking game.

I could have paid for a PhD on the interest of the money I dropped in this fucking game. Did I beat it, eventually, a few week before the arcade shuttered it's doors and became a video rental shack? Yes. Do I regret it? A little.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-16

Don't feel bad, I beat Superman: The Arcade Game AND Time Traveler 3d in the arcade (combined total of $30 but Time Traveler was at least $1 per credit).

And the Aliens arcade game but that's more defensible.

I don't think I ever quite made it to the end of the last level of Golden Axe without running out of quarters though.

chumbucket - 2017-03-16

So many many quarters.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2017-03-16

Someone could sorta recreate this game in youtube using video links for choices

StanleyPain - 2017-03-16

Dragon's Lair and Space Ace were released on DVD with a mode that just let you watch all of the footage like this a long time ago. Interestingly, though, when you just watch the linear laserdisc files, you of course get to see all the unique death animations.
I've always had a deep love not only for the design and animation, but that great pantomime-esque thing of having virtually no dialogue.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-16

The foley and sound design are great!

Inoperableheart - 2017-03-16

"Hi, I'm Don Bluth. Did you notice my gigantic vore fetish? Well okay then you have a nice day" Also I'm submitting full video for Thayers quest so it's laser disc games week now.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-03-17

More than anything, this video makes me realize just how much I miss western 2D animation.

I wonder if the Dragon's Lair theatrical film (and the seven other animated features Don Bluth allegedly has in production) will ever see the light of day.

StanleyPain - 2017-03-17

The crowdfunded DL movie is still in development. However, according to people who contributed to it and get the members-only updates and such, it apparently looks amazing and does seem to be making legit progress.

That little look back and forth before starting a new attempt. Dirk is proto-Ash.
