Hmm.. apparently mid-2000s FX style badassness is still badass? What gives. I know the reason for this being the last Wolverine movie and all, but it's pretty well known by X-Men Luddites like myself that he can't die, right? Like, he's been nuked down to a single atom and regenerated from that once.. are different versions of Wolverine less immortal kinda like how Superman's canonically died at least a handful of times but you can go get a new Superman Comic right now if you'd like? Oh well, since Legion probably won't have a place in the new X=Mouseketeers either so it was nice knowing ya you crazy one dimensional mutants

Logan's dead these days. "How did he die", you ask? The answer is: thematically appropriately.

I don't follow a whole lot of Marvel, but I think most mutants lost their powers because of Movie-Related Shenanigans. Wolverine lost his healing factor, and that's when his enemies swarmed on him. He managed to beat them all, and found out who the boss villain behind it all was: the scientist who gave him his adamantium skeleton.

(Backstory: Logan never wanted the adamantium, he was always content to be a guy with a healing factor and bone claws living his semi-immortal life. A team of scientists managed to subdue and abduct him, fuse the metal to his skeleton, and attempted to mind-control him into being their tool. He escaped and has had a fucked up life ever since.)

All right, so Logan has found that the head scientist from way back when isn't dead, and has kept up the experiments and is currently trying it on three different subjects. Logan manages to kill the scientist and free the three subjects (also gives each of them one of his three doses of Cure Critical Wounds potion) and finally dies encased in adamantium, watching the sun rise one last time.

Like I say, thematically appropriate: Wolverine's last act was to stop the cycle that had ruined his life and would ruin other people's. And he died not because someone was tougher than him, but because there was a cause worth sacrificing his life for.

It's been awhile since I've read much Marvel, but I've been greatly confused as to the origin, in the movies, of Wolverine's bone-claws. In the comics, the claws were installed into his arms by Weapon X and were always adamantium. He didn't have "bone claws", his mutant power was just the healing factor. So...I thought that was really weird when they put that in the movies. In fact, in the original X-Men film, I'm pretty sure they specifically mention the claws are an installed mechanism into his arms. (haven't seen it in a long time so I could be wrong). In fact, i seem to remember in the early X-Men days (the series that was started in the 90s, not Uncanny X Men) there was a storyline where Magneto rips the metal out of his body, and after that wolverine doesn't have claws anymore because they weren't part of his body.

Eh..whatever....

StanleyPain, I commend you for devoting your brain to better things than I have. In the comics we'd always assumed the claws were 100% adamantium, but some time after Magneto ripped the adamantium out of Logan, it turned out he had bone claws. So were they always there, or did they form after the adamantium left? It's the former; when Marvel did the "Origin" story where we learned Logan's real name was James Howlett, he had bone claws even as a teenager.

Wolverine as metaphor for humiliating teenage attempts at l'amour!

StanleyPain - 2017-03-10

Huh..that's new to me. Seems kinda dumb, but whatever. I guess it's one of those things they retconned long after I was reading the comics.

Speaking of, I just watched X Men Apocalypse for the first time a few days ago and I thought it was pretty disappointing on a whole lot of levels. But, by far, the dumbass thing of having Wolverine meet a teenage Jean Grey in Weapon X is just so retarded.
So many things about that movie bugged me, but that's my teenage comic fan talking I guess.

I just watched Xmen Apocalypse too!

God damn what a snoozefest. I really liked Days of Future Past and it was the same screenwriter so what the hell?

A 2 1/2 hour comic book movie where the villain's plot isn't revealed until almost 2 hours in. Nothing at all really happens until well over an hour in.

I lost count but I think they tried to do 4 different origin stories and 5 personal arcs.

Here's how you can tell your comic book movie sucks: when the cartoon did the same story better. Hell, the cartoon did EVERYTHING better: plot, character design, action sequences.

StanleyPain - 2017-03-11

Pretty much everything about X: Apocalypse falls apart when you stop to think about it in any critical way. It's the Marvel equivalent of Batman v Superman I think, though not nearly as terrible and cynical a movie. I could go on for ages about it, but I won't, suffice to say it was an incredibly lazy and poorly crafted "corporate" type film clearly designed just to set up aspects of the franchise rather than be a legitimately solid stand alone movie.

The Force Awakens of comic book movies

Crab Mentality - 2017-03-11

Did anyone else see "Get Out"? I loved it.

Anaxagoras - 2017-03-11

I have not, but after reading several articles singing its praises, I'm definitely going to see it, as soon as I get a chance.

Get Out is just wonderful to see with a good crowd

MurgatroidMendelbaum - 2017-03-12

It received an ovation in my theater.
