So basically we're a few days away from the ending to Evangelion right?

CONGRATULATIONS!

And darkness and decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.

Frankly it pales in comparison to the raw footage.

Old_Zircon - 2017-01-14

Satire is kind of becoming obsolete since Poe's Law fully became the status quo last year.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-01-14

Donald Trump has made America uninteresting.

He never expected to actually win, but now he's got the job he's just trying to cash out as much as possible with sinecure positions for all his family cronies before the impeachment.

Nominal - 2017-01-15

I don't think there's going to be any impeachment. His cabinet pics are all the same former executives he accused his opponent of cozying up to. I suspect he'll easily heel to the establishment quite quickly, and the party knows it would fuck their image.

A full blown impeachment might actually be the worse outcome. They replace him with Pence, who is also full of horrible ideas but doesn't suffer from ADD and actually has support. And when a democrat does manage to take the presidency, how long until Republicans weaponize the precedent? For christ sake they tried to do it over a blowjob because they were still sore a whole 24 years after Watergate.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-01-15

If the republicans in congress weren't afraid of their base, I think Trump would enter office pre-impeached. If they decided it's in their best interest to turn on him, they'll do it.

He's the most unpopular president-elect in living memory, and his followers actually seem to believe the crazy promises he's made, and the only one he can really deliver is to cut taxes on the rich. Some of his followers will leave him. Not all, but he can't afford to lose any.

We're already living in an impossible future, so predicting anything seems problematic. It looks to me like a 1-in-4 chance of a fascist takeover, and a 3 in 4 chance of a Texas-sized-pooch-screwing. But clearly, I can be wrong. Oh, so very very wrong!

Trump's greatest talent is as a troll. Half the people who voted for him were just trying to make the liberals' heads explode. The problem is that, like most Trills, Trump is himself easily trolled. He's going to tweet something really fucked up someday soon. I mean really really REALLY fucked up!

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-01-15

I don't think there's anything Trump could say other than directly insulting his base that would lose him any followers.

Top republican figures have been saying unbelievably crazy shit for a long time now. People who are still on their side, by necessity, have learned to largely ignore it or hand-waive it away as media spin.

I mean, c'mon... Bush Jr, Palin, Bachmann.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-01-15

>>>I don't think there's anything Trump could say other than directly insulting his base that would lose him any followers.

Obviously, if he could alienate his followers by saying horrible things, he would have done it by now. What's going to lose him followers is when he doesn't live up to his promises to balance the budget, invest in infrastructure and create the greatest economic growth in history by cutting taxes massively for the rich, without cutting social security, medicare, or medicaid, by cutting taxes massively for the rich. Assuming he doesn't pull this miracle off, I'm guessing that his huge negatives are not soft. Just holding onto his base will not be enough.

What scares me is the prospect of another major terrorist event. If you're Isis, and you want to provoke America into doing something stupid, you're never going to get a better a chance than right now. If we get another 9/11 with America in power, it's all over for the U.S. Canada will have to build a border wall.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-01-15

Can we stop saying, "Boogity Boogity fascist takeover!" until it seems at all probable that one party is killing, imprisoning, or exiling members of the other party, or passing laws to restrict democratic institutions? Because that's what fascism looks like; not a foulmouthed leader you hate, but a foulmouthed leader you hate who is disappearing his opponents and changing the constitution.

The risk is in waiting too long to take a possible autocrat seriously. I say Trump is already on a trajectory that could lead to tyranny; one institution after another is folding before him, and we're already running out of institutions. Law enforcement seems to be generally behind Trump, most of the states are Republican, Congress is Republican, the Supreme Court shows every indication of just getting more right wing, and the media has consistently dropped the ball with regard to casting Trump as the threat he is.

So, which institutions do you expect to protect us, should Trump decide to abuse his authority?

https://newrepublic.com/article/137822/donald-trumps-campaign-beco me-cult

>>>The crowd not only cheered, but they slipped into their now-familiar chant: “Lock them up, lock them up, lock them up.”

>>>The “lock her up” chant, usually reserved for Hillary Clinton, has grown to encompass anybody who threatens the Trump cult.

>>>Last night it was his accusers.

>>>Lock them up, lock them up.

>>>The FBI who chose not to indict Clinton.

>>>Lock them up, lock them up.

>>>The dishonest media.

>>>Lock them up, lock them up.

Consider the Republican power grab in North Carolina, the aggressive gerrymandering, the voter suppression laws, the refusal to vote on Obama's supreme court pick.

Consider the Alt Right hoardes chanting "HEIL TRUMP". A couple of years ago, they were Gamergaters. They were a joke. Now Steve Bannon is in the White House.

Consider the horrible precedent set during the Bush/Chaney years: the renditions, the spying, the torture, Abu Gahrib. I don't think Obama has dome

Consider Trump's autocratic personality, his thin-skinned vindictiveness. It's been said that he has an enemy's list. That's just something I read that's entirely unconfirmed, but I think it feels pretty true. If I recall, and maybe I don't, Nixon's enemies list was 62 pages long. If Trump has an enemies list, it could easily be a terabyte or more.

Above all, consider Trump's utter disregard for reality. Intellectual integrity may be the most important moral principle. Without that, you can make the rest up for your own comfort.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-01-15

During the campaign, Trump talked about restricting Freedom of the press and jailing his opponent. He promised to fill Guantanimo with "bad people". And more. I already wrote a much longer reply, but typing on my phone is torture, and then I hit the wrong key and its gone.

But no, we're not going to wait until the murders start. Boogity boogity, deal with it.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-01-15

Shit. Outsmarted by the reply key once again!
