clearly the deer is retrieving a hunter on it's bicycle.

Congratulations, mighty hunter. You outwitted an animal with a brain the size of a grape. You are smarter than a deer.

Also, good job killing it with a gun. It's really hard to kill things with a gun.

In 1910 Carl Akeley, a taxidermist who had gone to Africa to bag specimens for his museum displays, was ambushed by a leopard. Akeley was alone and didn't have his gun at the ready. So while the leopard was busy clawing and tearing at him, he reached down the leopard's throat and choked it to death.

You shot that deer, though. So good job.

I'd be afraid that would bust the guts and ruin the meat.

Deer are carriers for Lyme Disease infected ticks, and if they show up in a backyard where you or your dog or cat spends time you should be wary. Lyme Disease sucks.

Deer are tasty, are highly nutritious, and are way overpopulated in many areas. Its also way less damaging from an environmental perspective to eat deer than cow or farmed fish.

Also, say what you want about hunters, but at least these guys aren't total quad driving assholes.

Also, I bet you are a lousy shot.

I'm presuming that was meant to be a reply to me?

Anyway, I grew up in Alabama. I know hunting is necessary sometimes. There are people in the truly rural parts of this country that need to hunt & fish to survive. I have no problem with them. The hunters I have the problem with are the "recreational" types who take way too much delight in killing animals.

The big problem I have with them is they use their willingness to kill an animal as a yardstick of manliness. Also, people who have a lack of feeling for animals tend to have a similar lack of feeling for their fellow humans.

Also, the tired argument that deer are overpopulating and causing problems for people would be solved if people would stop encroaching on the wilderness.

I used to be a fair shot, but I don't know about my skills these days. My eyes are shit and I'm way out of practice. I went hunting several times as a kid, but never shot anything. I left that to the adults. I didn't feel like killing something that reminded me of my dog.

I will, however, kill and gut the Hell out of a fish and fry that fucker up.

The above is meant more as a word experiment than a snark comment.

Deer are terrible beasts that deserve our disdain and it always does my heart good this time of year to see one or several of them shot lifeless and heaped into the back of a ford ranger or strapped across the top of a corsica. Deer are doing their best and most useful work only when they are dead and feeding cool animals like coyotes and awesome humans.

On my way to work this past week I saw a particularly dumb dead deer on the side of the road in a physical state that suggested it had been rolled under the entire length of an 18-wheeler leaving it looking like an even dumber and less useful log of red, furry playdoh.

My sincerest hope is that as its vitality faded that embarrasment of a creature was still able to hear and bear witness to two sharp horn blasts and a big, hair- knuckled middle finger out one or both windows.
