My stomach turned hearing Cohen's reanimated corpse at the open in such a blatant, maudlin appeal to emotion. Resolving the hubris of McKinnon's Clinton was essentially a free script. I'm glad to see SNL did end up doing the job of the jester that they were supposed to do.

Xenocide - 2016-11-13

Hallelujah has been covered over 300 times, so I'm not sure what's so bad about one more. Cohen never had a problem with others performing the song.

gravelstudios - 2016-11-13

I thought it was beautiful. Lots of people are hurting over this, and it was good for those people. Also, as a very progressive democrat that lives in West Virginia, I agree that a lot of working class (and poor) whites voted for Trump because rural communities have been left to rot and fester by economic forces beyond their control. But there is also a ton of racism, sexism, xenophobia and homophobia bubbling just under the surface. I see it all the time. I know people who STILL believe wholeheartedly that Obama is the antichrist. Their opinions are informed almost entirely by religious superstition, country music, and fox news. It's easy for liberals in New York or San Francisco to say we lost because the democrats don't reach out to these people, but I'm here to tell you that it's hard to reach them without pandering to their irrational ideas, and I don't want to see the democratic party stoop that low. I don't know what the answer is. Sorry for the wall of text.

Cena_mark - 2016-11-13

Well that's one wall Trump caused to be built.

godot - 2016-11-13

Okay, lemme guess, you knew Chapelle in 2000?

Xenocide - 2016-11-13

Chapelle and I were conjoined twins until last year. He's pretty cool, he even let me keep most of our liver.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-11-13

Wow. What the fuck happened to SNL?

godot - 2016-11-13

Mocking a fascist wasn't enough. Now we mourn for America for a week.

godot - 2016-11-13

Also (of course), SNL hasn't really been funny for decades. But little has been.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-11-13

More like what happened to Dave Chapelle? His timing and delivery here is abominable. There were good punch lines though, so pussy grabs for the writers ( BTW this is the new fist bump thing: pass it on ).

Xenocide - 2016-11-13

Chapelle's Show was not broadcast live. That's what happened to his delivery.

Nominal - 2016-11-13

Holy shit you weren't kidding about Chapelle.

Simillion - 2016-11-15

http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/dave-chappelle-standu p-monologue/3424955

His monologue is as good as ever

gravelstudios - 2016-11-13

I thought the line about picking strawberries was pretty good.

gmol - 2016-11-14

That was a good line IMHO

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-11-13

I know it's silly, but for me the saddest part may be that there will be no President McKinnon. McKinnon didn't play Hillary as we know her, she played Hillary's Id, the extravagant ambition that the real Hilary had to struggle woth so awkwardfly because it was considered unseemly for a woman. It was beautifull interpretation, and it would have been so beautiful to see Her triumphant.

>>Also (of course), SNL hasn't really been funny for decades. But little has been.

Some of you may know what I'm about to say, because it's what I always say.

SNL has NEVER been consistently funny. It's ALWAYS been like watching a baseball game. You'll see more strikeouts than home runs, but the home runs , when they come, are thrilling. And you watch it because it's a tradition.

Cena_mark - 2016-11-13

Stupid out of touch, white, New York liberals.

Nominal - 2016-11-13

Voting for Trump is a "fuck you" to the New York elite...by ushering in Wall Street billionaires to cabinet positions.

....I don't get it.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-11-14

...and staffing your administration with the same lobbyists you pretend to disdain. And making Reince Preibus you CoS. I mean, there's a guy Joe Sixpack can relate to. Reince! Can there be any doubt this poor man still suffers the burning shame of multiple atomic wedgies? Can anyone be more connected to the establishment?

Trump's already sold out and it's not been a full week even. Bonus for Liberals? Trump acknowledged being taken to the woodshed by Hopie. It was epic, by all accounts. A 90 minute lecture on presidenting from a professor of presidenting. Like a shot of DMT injected directly into Don's brain via the tear duct. That's why he looked so shell shocked at the presser. He knows he's in over his head.

Xenocide - 2016-11-14

Trump screamed about destroying Obamacare for 18 months, Obama talked to him for 90 minutes, and afterward Donald began walking it all back and saying he would keep some or all of the ACA. It was beautiful in its way.

I think our ideal solution is that Obama needs to keep living in the White House, but secretly. Once a week he pops out of some hiding place or throws off a disguise, like Team Rocket but competent, then he grabs Trump and takes him into a room and just talks to him about policy for an hour. Then he puts him right back where he found him, and watches as a horrified shell-shocked Trump does whatever Obama asked of him.

This will continue for the entire three months of Trump's presidency.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-14

Oh ye of little faith; you dorks just don't believe in Hope and Change.

alitheiathricechastened - 2016-11-14

hi evil hober,

i lime steven universe, do yous want to wathc seven unimerse with mi?

Bort - 2016-11-14

Goddamn Xeno, you say the best stuff sometimes.

Obama playing the secret Dick Cheney role to the Trump administration would ... I can't say it would be a GOOD thing, but it would probably mitigate a lot of the pain.

Cena_mark - 2016-11-14

I like Steven Universe too.

Xenocide - 2016-11-14

Well look what showed up in the Wall Street Journal yesterday (in the story about Prebius being named chief of staff:)

"After meeting with Mr. Trump, the only person to be elected president without having held a government or military position, Mr. Obama realized the Republican needs more guidance. He plans to spend more time with his successor than presidents typically do, people familiar with the matter said."

OBAMA WILL BE TRUMP'S YODA. HE WILL MAKE TRUMP CARRY HIM ON HIS BACK EVERYWHERE.

Bort - 2016-11-14

So now the Left is going to blame Obama for everything Trump does.

Obama's demeanor as a community organizer could well come in handy here. It occurs to me that maybe Trump isn't evil, just incredibly fucking stupid and willfully ignorant; the subtle difference being, the stupid and ignorant have no inherent preference for evil, and can be manipulated into doing good.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-14

>>So now the Left is going to blame Obama for everything Trump does.

Obama was happy to continue the legacy of Bush, so why wouldn't Trump be happy to continue Obama's? Our brave President-Elect is not "stupid" - like Obama, he knew the American voters were clamoring for hope and change, and like Obama, he probably has enough sense to cave in to the neocon/neolib establishment now that his power is secure.

Hillary was the stupid one here. She played her "I'm a lying fascist sociopathic war candidate" card WELL before the fix was in, and now, because of this hubris, she and all of her toadies in the dinosaur media have paid the price.

bac - 2016-11-13

God I wish the surprise guest had memorized their lines.

I liked Mckinnons open, and I liked her line about not quitting the fight. Yes my being in love with her heavily influences my opinion on the matter.

Chappelles monologue was fucking brilliant and I'll fight you if you say otherwise.

StanleyPain - 2016-11-14

5 for fucking evil.
SNL did absolutely nothing edgy during the election season, and even stooped so low as to have fucking Trump on the actual show itself and play it for "oh hee hee, how funny we have the fascist on our show!", now they want to be all "Oh, solidarity my fellow Americans."

Fuck you, Lorne Michaels, you gutless fucking turd and your chickenshit NBC overlords.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-14

Yes, NBC wasn't shamelessly partisan *enough*. That is the problem here.

alitheiathricechastened - 2016-11-14

hi evilomer,

i like steven universe, do you wam to watch stamen universe with me?

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-11-14
