It's important not to lose sight of why a person would want to vote for Trump.

These people honestly believe that immigrants are stealing their jobs and making their towns unsafe. They believe the democrats want to steal their money and hand out it to lazy undesirables who refuse to work, and that they want to take their rights away. They believe the country is falling to moral decay and is doomed to suffer Jesus' wrath. They also believe that Trump is against these things because of a letter next to his name.

THAT stuff is the crazy thoughts. It's perfectly rational to stick by a guy who says some rapey shit when you fully believe in the doomsday scenario you think will happen when he doesn't win.

The crazy part is making it through two terms of a manchurian candidate muslim bent on destroying america relatively unscathed and still buying in to any of this horseshit.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-10-11

You forgot how they all believe Hillary is a mass murderer and traitor to our nation who should be put in jail.

Seriously, that's all my ultra-right-wing coworkers would talk about today. It's like the entire rest of the debate never happened.

"He's gonna put her in JAIL, finally."

Gmork - 2016-10-11

What exactly is the evidence for her being a "mass murderer", exactly? Seems like all the neo-cons I hear talking about then only know one keyword: Benghazi. Like, that's the entire argument.

"B-b-but Benghazi!"

kingarthur - 2016-10-12

It's a ridiculous conspiracy theory brought up by alt-right media in hushed tones since at least the death of Vince Foster, but probably dating back to Hilary's push for universal health care.

They just kept piling it on from there because they had a useful bogeyman in her.

SolRo - 2016-10-12

They could try calling her a mass murderer for buying into and promoting US interventionism and regime change ideology in the middle east and other areas. But they like even more their big military industrial complex campaign contributions and future lobbyist positions kept intact.

kingarthur - 2016-10-12

Eggs-actly.

Hooker - 2016-10-12

I think, far more than any other reason, people are supporting Trump because he is the only candidate from both party's primaries that shares their loathing and contempt for politics. There are racists and xenophobes and Islamophobes and evangelicals and so on that are supporting Trump, but I don't think they individually (and maybe even together) are stronger forces than American hatred of their political system. Inflating the easier-to-deal-with problems with some of (or maybe even all of) Trump's supporters just means you're ignoring the most important ones. If Trump's defeated in November, as it appears he probably will be, the problem he presents doesn't just disappear. America drank a ton, got behind the wheel, and looked like it was heading off a cliff but now it looks like she wont? That's fine, cliff probably avoided. America still has to get home safely, and it looks like America's still drinking behind the wheel.

Disregard the massive group of Americans that put Trump in this position as a bunch of racists at your own peril. They hate the way politics work in this country, are vocal about it, and are willing to take more drastic measures than you are. And that hatred is something you probably struggle to confront, because, I would venture to guess, even as the binary choice you prefer in the election seems to be winning, you probably don't like the system much either. Or if you somehow do, most of the people voting the same way as you don't.

This will most likely be the sixth of the last seven presidential elections that the Republicans have not won the popular vote. This year, they changed dramatically. Four years from now, they'll probably change even more dramatically. They will continue to change until they find the support they need to be competitive, and the direction they're changing hasn't been encouraging. Misrepresenting and disregarding it is only deliberately harming your own progress.

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-10-12

I don't buy it at all.

I think there's two main subsets of Trump supporters:

The GOP base, who vote GOP (often but not always erroneously) because of economic reasons....

And the nutters.

People who are dissatisfied with the system like you describe are dissatisfied *because* the system doesn't cow to their nutter world views.

People who are REALLY dissatisfied with the system just don't vote at all.

In any case, I only meant to say that the type of problems you might believe our country has that would lead you to vote for Trump would logically "trump" a rapey candidate.

On an unrelated note, I am slightly annoyed that THIS is what finally drives a stake through the heart of his campaign. Not that it isn't terrible what he said, but it's been floating around since 2005 AND he's said and done MANY things recently that are at least as terrible AND this is all happening right when Hillary's campaign is changing gears to focus more on the gender issue.

It's gross. "I have a daughter and Trump's comments are blah blah blah." You don't know any Mexicans, or fat people, or poor people... or you're only JUST NOW noticing the man's a fucking pig despite saying pretty disgusting things about all kinds of women pretty much nonstop since forever? Only now, when someone is politicizing it, does it become an issue?

It's gross. It's almost worse to see big players torpedo him now, at this moment.

Bort - 2016-10-12

"On an unrelated note, I am slightly annoyed that THIS is what finally drives a stake through the heart of his campaign."

I think this falls into the category of, if it wasn't this it would have been something else. It's almost a placeholder: any scandal at this time would do. Had the order of things been different, the other month the media would have decided that Trump's locker room talk was crude but just talk, but saying that people of Mexican descent can't be competent judges is completely intolerable in these United States.

A lot of people said, a long time ago, that Trump was bound to lose, because he simply doesn't have what it takes to function as a politician. It's all in the fundamentals: he doesn't have the experience, the temperament, the mind, the ideas, the track record. The man is held together only by a veneer of confidence; puncture that and he's done. The only reason he persisted this long is because the media hasn't been quite certain what to do with him, but they sure haven't been holding his feet to the fire, and any criticisms have been in the form of false equivalences.

So what changed? The debates: Hillary called him on the carpet, and he got defensive and weird and chair-fucky. Should have happened long ago -- say during the primaries -- but there is no way it WOULDN'T happen debating the Democratic candidate. Now the media knows what to do with him and they can just follow the "kick him on the way down" script.

Five for the alternating waves of astonishment and dismay passing across black guy's face. Some things of this earth are simply beyond our mortal Ken, my friend.

That guy - 2016-10-11

Five for capitalizing 'ken'.

Old_Zircon - 2016-10-11

Blanka knows what's up, though.

Cena_mark - 2016-10-11

Why can't God use Hillary?

TeenerTot - 2016-10-12

She doesn't have the Blessed Fleshy Antenna to receive god's signal.

M-DEEM - 2016-10-11

This woman is everywhere and never busy on election day.

The oaf on the right, that is.

memedumpster - 2016-10-11

Wildly entertaining!

"Welcome to 2016, that's all I'm gonna' say..."

Meerkat - 2016-10-12

It sounded like "ominous" to me.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-10-11

She's been married to the same lucky guy for 32 years.

kingarthur - 2016-10-12

That man is either a saint, dead inside, or both.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-10-11

I get the feeling you could ask this lady for directions to the john, and her answer would somehow involve Hillary Clinton killing babies.

Scrimmjob - 2016-10-11

"It's through there, right past the pile of dead babies that Hillary Clinton sucked the blood out of this morning."

kingarthur - 2016-10-12

"DISMEMBERED ABORTIONS!"

StanleyPain - 2016-10-12

Has Sarah Palin commented on this whole thing? I ask because I would imagine the surreal, pill-induced, word-fucking-salad that would come out of her mouth would be joyous.

gmol - 2016-10-12

Something I still don't understand is the faux shock of Trump's words. Men ,who aren't anywhere near as rich and powerful as Trump, talk like Trump. All the time.

teethsalad - 2016-10-12

most of those men didn't win the nomination of the party who have been collectively wagging their finger at the rest of the nation for decades over supposed moral failings

kingarthur - 2016-10-12

Maybe, if you're in the South like me, you've heard it all since the time you were little and are just outraged because you're sick of it? It's ok to be sick of it.

gmol - 2016-10-12

I'd always be the awkward kid in the room who, if he tried to talk naturally like this in a group of guys, would sound like an alien from outer space trying to mimic huooman-speek. I don't like this kind of talk.

I guess I am just annoyed by people like Arnold and Bill who are acting like they don't (or, at least, haven't spent a lot of time) talking just like this.

Cena_mark - 2016-10-12

It's especially ironic that it's happening when another Clinton is running for President. During the Monica thing was when Republicans were at their most obnoxious over morals.

Grandmaster Funk - 2016-10-12

Maybe I run in the wrong (right) circles, but I don't hear a whole lot of this kind of talk from dudes. When I do hear this kind of talk, one thing that is inevitably true is that the person doing the talking has plenty of success with women, and women will actively defend him.

That is why few dudes bother to "call out" "bragging about sexual assault" or whatever. I'm going to whine and cry on behalf of respecting women, when the dude spouting this shit is respected and beloved and slobbered on by women? I'm going to say "hey BUDDY, Their High Holiness Women don't like that"? I'm going to say "hey, that's sexual assault," to someone who is routinely and enthusiastically rewarded by women for committing "sexual assault" on them? I'd rather walk away, live my own damn life where I don't hassle women and I try to avoid them hassling me as much as possible, and write off both this piece of shit as well as the pieces of shit that drool over him. Why do either deserve some Quixotic stand? Why do women believe themselves entitled to this kind of emotional labor from marginalized, touchy-feely men who owe them absolutely nothing, and whom they typically regard with contempt?

Men have always pursued behaviors that women reward. It's why Brock Turner didn't think he was committing rape and his female friend sacrificed her public image solely to defend his honor -- he was used to getting laid. Women have the power to make men outcasts whenever they want to. They do it all the time. If women as a whole actually wanted men that talked and acted like this to be ostracized, they already would be.

pastorofmuppets - 2016-10-13

cool

BorrowedSolution - 2016-10-16

GrandmasterFunk just lacks the confidence for rape, y'all. He should find a job bouncing for a while. Women love being raped by bouncers.

Have some stars, fuck-o.
