The music is hilarious. We need to make the mundane seem exciting and urgent!! (Also the fast cuts)

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-09-22

Also whats the premise of this show? Do the 'nightmare' restaurants take part because they feel that any mega-publicity is good publicity?

EvilHomer - 2016-09-22

Stated on-camera premise, or behind-the-scenes premise?

The stated premise is that there are all these shit restaurants, and Gordon Ramsey, sweary-pants celebrity chef, gets sent in to turn things around and stop said shit restaurant from going out of business. Behind-the-scenes? I have no idea.

Gunny McRifleson - 2016-09-23

That and they want the free renovation and advertising that comes with it. Most of these owners are delusional and have no idea how shitty their restaurant is. The show might be ramping up the fake drama, but these places truly are squalid and serve terrible food.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-09-22

So this place has been open for 40 years, and the night Gordon Ramsey arrives with his cameras is the night they have to call an ambulance? Anybody else think the producers put something into the food?

I wish Gordon Ramsey had been born in the US. HERE's the man who could give Trump a run for his money!

StanleyPain - 2016-09-22

The American version of Kitchen Nightmares is 100% gamed bullshit with almost completely fake scenarios. Ramsay insists it isn't and that he would never participate in that, but I think the billion dollar mansions and failing 4 star restaurants kinda speak for themselves.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-22

There's already a man who could give Trump a run for his money. That man's name is Hillary, and with any luck, he'll live long enough to make it to Wrestlemania.

bawbag - 2016-09-22

He has been sued on the 'fakery' a couple of times and won/had the case thrown out. Now that doesn't mean there's zero fakery, but I'd definitely revise the 100% part.

Old_Zircon - 2016-09-23

It could also mean the subjects don't actually understand/read the contracts they sign authorizing the fakery.

bawbag - 2016-09-23

True enough, but I've no doubt that reality shows bring out the worst in the participants, script or no script.

Make of this what you will: https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/17ycvr/as_per_a_request_i_w as_a_production_assistant_on/

"Obviously they have a schedule and idea of what's going to happen, but the show makes itself. They don't make the restaurant shitty on purpose, they don't fabricate situations to be more dramatic, etc. The most they do is selective editing in post-production, but no, nothing is faked or staged live."
