I enjoyed this film more than I expected to, despite my initial reservations as a lifelong 2000AD reader.

I still feel it would have been better as a miniseries pilot episode rather than a feature film though.

I thought it was pretty solid. I know quite a few really hardcore 2000AD fans and not a single one of them disliked this.

It's definitely a pity there won't be more of this, because it really got Dredd. Picking out the real essence of what's going on in a work and moving it across mediums is not easy. Compare with Stallone's Dredd, which, visually, was way more faithful to the comic but clearly didn't get what was going on.

Yep, I agree totally with that appraisal.

Also this movie doesn't have Rob Schneider flying through the air on a green screen hovercycle cracking jokes.

Didn't include "Thank you, Judge." at the end, couldn't vote for it.

Between this movie and McCoy on JJ Trek, Karl Urban cemented himself as one of my favorite actors of the 2000s.

Seriously, has this guy ever not nailed a role?

Also, this movie works because of it's gutsy decisions.
1. Dredd is never shown without his helmet.

2. The movie doesn't sugar coat the orwellian-fascist nightmare state...that represents the good guys.

3. There is no "but the fascists are the real badguys!" twist halfway through the movie. Dredd doesn't change, his form of justice is necessary because the alternative is far worse.

4. White Phosphorus rounds right when it was very un-PC given what was going on in the world at the time.

Dirty Harry did this better.
