Evans and Stoklasa moved so fast you'd think someone told them there was fried chicken in that room.

Old_Zircon - 2016-08-23

Chicken-throwing chase scene in Supercock > actual Ben-Hur

memedumpster - 2016-08-23

I saw the trailer for Ben-Hurf in the theater and it's the first trailer in forever that actively pissed me off. Every shot with a chariot made me want the film to fail. I was mad at the Magnificent Seven remake for airing their also shit trailer next to Ben-Hurf, that's how bad it looked.

Nikon - 2016-08-23

It looked really bad. And not in the "I can have fun watching this shitty movie and laughing at it" kind of bad.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-23

Why are you guys complaining about a trailer? You haven't even seen the film! Stop talking about the film you have not seen.

Now here's a list of actors who have blogged about how important this movie is. It is obvious to everyone on my Twitter feed that you just have a problem with religion and strong, Christian leads, you virgin, basement-dwelling, Christ-hating nerds.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-23

Speaking of; how does this remake handle the Jesus parts? "Former government slave rebels against a decadent empire by finding Jesus" doesn't sound like the kind of message that would go over very well.

memedumpster - 2016-08-23

They cast an Italian-Brazilian to play a Jew, so the Jesus parts were handled in typical Hollywood style.

I did read that they took the time to not cg crapfeast the chariot race. I guess it's a testimony to how authentic cg has gotten that real life can look like bad cg too.

memedumpster - 2016-08-23

I... kindofwhishMelGibsonhadmadethisremake.

I said NOTHING.

EvilHomer - 2016-08-23

I was hoping they'd cast Adam Sandler. :(

memedumpster - 2016-08-23

If they had, this movie would have been far more memorable and more people would have went to see it.

Nikon - 2016-08-23

Why not try to make a new movie instead of remaking or rebooting good films?

duck&cover - 2016-08-23

And take a chance on something original? Fuck that.

StanleyPain - 2016-08-23

It's too bad Timur Bekmambetov so whole-heartedly threw himself into the Hollywood shitshow because this means we're basically never seeing a Twilight Watch (Dusk Watch) film from him.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-08-23

There was a Ben Hur remake?

cognitivedissonance - 2016-08-23

I have no idea why anybody would remake Ben-Hur in 2016.

Two Jar Slave - 2016-08-23

Yes and no. Historical fiction, abs, gore, and sandals have gone over very well in the last decade. But this is a story people don't know or care about, so it needed to work with that reality instead of assuming brand recognition would get them anywhere.

StanleyPain - 2016-08-24

It's yet another attempt at Christian studios trying to dip their feet into expensive, wide release films, in this case Ben Hur originated with Lightworkers Media.

This film seems to be a massive bomb so far, but it seems to be at least far less condescending than shit like the Left Behind remake or War Room or God Is Not Dead and all that insultingly preachy bullshit.

Maggot Brain - 2016-08-23

No gay subtext, no movie.

Caminante Nocturno - 2016-08-24

It makes me happy that everyone understands that this movie crossed a line that should not have been crossed.

TeenerTot - 2016-08-24

I actually like the Heston version. Because it can be enjoyed seriously for the story, but often delights the viewer unintentionally with its huge sets, huge screen, huge acting!
This...this just doesn't look like it can do either of those things.
