Starring Jabba the Hutton.

Gmork - 2016-05-15

classy

wtf japan - 2016-05-15

A Lifetime Original

baleen - 2016-05-15

haha 1 starred for fatism gmork?

you weird fetishist.

Gmork - 2016-05-15

I don't think a fetish has anything to do with not liking prejudiced behavior. You could be yelling "NIGGER" and expect a similar reaction.

baleen - 2016-05-15

except you are actually a fetishist in a feeder/fat fetish kind of way, you just disguise it with the acceptance speak of the week, which is very weird.
it's fine that you like really fat girls, honestly, but you've shown your hand a little repeatedly and it's weird.

Using your analogy, if I said "man I love black girls you guys are fucked up" if someone was using the word "nigger" to describe black women on this site (as if being morbidly obese was the same as centuries of slavery but whatever) then I would expect to be called on it as well.

Gmork - 2016-05-16

That was a pathetically desperate string off logical fallacies, even for you. So by your logic, someones sexual preferences exclude them from calling someone else out on discriminatory behavior.

baleen - 2016-05-16

Glad at least you can finally admit the fetish thing.

The logical fallacy of the very witty rifftraxx level riff of Jabba the Hutton with calling black people niggers was all yours, gmo. Get over yourself, the feeding porn awaits you.

EvilHomer - 2016-05-16

The problem is, Gmork doesn't want to call people "fat" OR "niggers". In order for him to understand your analogy, and thus his error, you have to call Gmork on prejudice and discrimination he actually enjoys - like bronyphobia, for example.

Gmork - 2016-05-16

Never denied my fetishes, and you're still using a logical fallacy to continue this pathetic gradeschool-caliber insult. I made no logical fallacies by calling you out on your shitty behavior. Kind of sad you're still pretending your slavery comparison is relevant. Like i said, that's all on you.

You sure go out of your way to pretend you're not the asshole in this situation. The worst you can accuse me of is white knighting. You, on the other hand, compared slavery to being fat. All i did was advocate not being an aesthetically insensitive fuckwad. And call your comparison to slavery stupid, which it most certainly is.

Admit you're an asshole and move on. No amount of spin is going to change that fact.

That guy - 2016-05-16

I haven't seen the 'white people' tag used in a way that's ineffably apt for quite a while.

baleen - 2016-05-15

the trailer doesn't show much but this film is worth watching for free to see the conclusive, co-opted end of the "vaporwave" movement. From the credits to the animated app-inspired, wall to wall intercuts, this movie is basically a loving goodbye to all that is good or important in art.

snothouse - 2016-05-15

If you could write a short piece describing this blow-by-blow, I'm sure we'd all be interested.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-05-15

Yes, you'll have to lay this one out for us.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-15

Short version is some kids made some unusual, sample oriented lo fi drone music around 2010, Adam Harper wrote an insanely out of touch article about it in 2012, that blew up and a bunch of people thought that the stuff in it was something other than a product of Harper's imagination (he even wrote a mea culpa followup admitting as much a year later, but nobody cared) and that led directly to this. By the time the term "vaporwave" was coined, the people who invented it had moved on. I remember seeing some quality fandom drama in 2013 when whats-her-name who did all the Vekroid/Mac Plus/Etc stuff did a live stream for the first time since she became an Internet celebrity and a bunch of people threw a shit fit because she played some kind of left field EDM or something, made jokes about "the vaporwave scene" and the chat mods booted anyone who used the word.

The people who were taking it seriously, setting themselves up as the gatekeepers of "cool" that always show up in any scene (real or online) as soon as there's social and/or literal capital in the wind got all huffy bcause they "disrespected the scene maaan" and, well, the most vocal of them went on to form one of the biggest Vaporwave netlabels (despite not even knowing it existed until almost 2014) is probably involved in this movie in some capacity.

So just like what always happens.

Some of the music is good, though, most of it is lazy crap because there's essentially zero barrier to entry. So maybe the Adam Harper article wasn't completely off base with the comparisons to punk.

http://www.dummymag.com/features/adam-harper-vaporwave

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-15

Fair warning, if you're considering reading that article it's like a Pitchfork review on a Tom Wolfe scale.

baleen - 2016-05-15

I know very little about it save some of my hipper friends post shit about it and I absorb it by osmosis. The low barrier to entry seems like the point in that "shitting it out means something because content is shit and so we have to take that shit and make it art," like all the internet collage artists who copy and paste pieces of porn to emoticons and banner ads and apply corrupted VHS filters to everything.

I knew a girl on facebook I had to delete because she took her "internet curation" so fucking seriously. She was an aspiring one-of-these people.

BHWW - 2016-05-15

Ba'athist Iraq pioneered the vaporwave aesthetic and was the first and last nation to incorporate it into their currency.

fedex - 2016-05-16

as soon as I started reading that Harper article I knew he was going to name-drop William Gibson somewhere, because that is whom his "literary style" is so blatantly, talentlessly ripping off.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-16

I actually watched the trailer finally and I don't see anything that has even a vague relationship to Vaporwave, though. What did I miss?

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-16

For people who enjoy this kind of stuff, buy this:

http://www.amazon.com/10-CD-ROM-Set--MediaClips/dp/B000I280UC/ ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463412872&sr=8-1&keywords=mediaclips+busin ess+backgrounds

Put the "Business Backgrounds" disc in, brows to the /WAVE/ directory, put it all in a playlist and kick back.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-16

Shit, that reminds me, about 4 years ago I was talking to an ex roommate about starting a Powerpoint duo, where one person would give a Powerpoint presentation while the other performed a soundtrack to it. Not particularly wedded to that idea, but it does make me think this is probably a good time to release an album in Powerpoint format.

snothouse - 2016-05-15

Now That's What I Call Garbage!

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-05-15

That trailer was just.. opaque, and really boring...

15th - 2016-05-15

Ignoring social media/tech culture in art is unauthentic, including it is ridiculous.

That guy - 2016-05-16

hmmm...... how to do both at once??

15th - 2016-05-16

Unfriended

That guy - 2016-05-17

true dat

NewHeavenSockman - 2016-05-15

this looks like a clunky as fuck, already dated remake of april fools day

also slightly related but I actually liked Unfriended, come at me horror purists

BHWW - 2016-05-15

Unfriended was actually a decent film despite what the marketing made it look like THE TWEETS ARE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE OOOOOOOOOOOOOO! SPOOOOOOOOOOKY!

I saw this film and it's not a chore to watch but it's not entertaining or edifying or anything else - it's just "there". You would be better off watching one of those public access TV channels that shows almost nothing but a local community events calendar or something 24 hours a day.

Nominal - 2016-05-16

Unfriended just happens to be the feature movie I'm hosting for this week's POETV Monday Night RAW!

The Mothership - 2016-05-16

Looking forward to tomorrow night's film, nominal!

Born in the RSR - 2016-05-17

Surprise:

It was stupid and tedious, full of plot-holes and it built up to a disappointment and lackluster ending.

But it was the best movie to see on a stream with a rolling chat of surly trolls commenting on every detail.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-17

There certainly was a lot of acting in it.

atheistgirl - 2016-05-15

Mmm... craptastic!

memedumpster - 2016-05-15

I used to know a heroin addict person exhauster-jettisoner from New York who you could not watch a single movie with ever because "looks like pretentious New York art students" was on diarrhea autospew.

Can't star because I despise that person.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-15

Sounds like a pretentious New York art student.

baleen - 2016-05-15

I am a new york jettisoner but I love new york and generally movies that take place in new york and my arthouse threshold is pretty damn high. This is genuinely awful.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-16

I like New York more than I let on but less than it likes itself.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-16

By "It" I mean the sort of people who would cross the bridge and show up in Kim's Video back when I used to occasionally hang out there. Who really only represent the small portion of people who spilled out of Williamsburg and made Green Point too unbearable for any of my friends to stay. Which is why I hardly go down there anymore, it got to the point where the only person left I knew down there was pretty deep in the Brooklyn literary scene and let me tell you, going to bars with up-and-coming Brooklyn writers is one of the most tedious things a person can experience.

baleen - 2016-05-16

"going to bars with up-and-coming Brooklyn writers is one of the most tedious things"

Yeah... It is.
I was given 30 days to vacate my Greenpoint apartment of 4 years because they wanted to build luxury condos. But the economy was bad so they left it a demolished shell for a couple years until the speculation picked up again.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-05-16

I call them the cream of the crop: they are both rich _and_ thick.

memedumpster - 2016-05-16

I watched it.
Five for baleen being way cooler than the people in this video.

I absolutely adore New York. One of my life dreams is to live in Queens (I am told I am the only human to say this) and sell 0 rowboats to Manhattaners for ,000 a pop as the water rises.

memedumpster - 2016-05-16

I fucking loved Brooklyn!

Of course, I absolutely have a "I do not interact with white people while traveling because then what's the point" rule that is pretty hard and fast, so the Asian refugee scene was dynamite (in a really sad but strong willed indomitable way).

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-05-16

Pretty much, yeah. You may be confusing the nabe with Chelsea? Much like Greenland is all icy, Queens ain't got too many if you know what I mean.

baleen - 2016-05-16

"what did i miss"

the trailer doesn't have much but there are tons of intercuts in the actual film that seem to borrow from the internet wasteland geocities trash aesthetic that is very popular in the hip world at the moment.
musically there's a little here and there too I think.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-17

"baleen

I was given 30 days to vacate my Greenpoint apartment of 4 years because they wanted to build luxury condos. But the economy was bad so they left it a demolished shell for a couple years until the speculation picked up again."

Thelast bunch of people I knew down there were living in Green Point about 4 blocks from the subway, around 2006. Their rents were all comparable to what I pay for a tiny, two room place in a so-so neighborhood in western Providence today. some of them had a three bedroom loft space with two common areas and a private basement for under 0 TOTAL.

On the other hand, it was Green Point so everything was full of rats.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-17

baleen
the internet wasteland geocities trash aesthetic that is very popular in the hip world at the moment.

This still boggles my mind, because I noticed this trend around the middle of 2013 and it was already obvious that it had passed its peak of relevance.

I'm curious to see what Bush era ephemera is going to start coming back in the next 5 years.

Old_Zircon - 2016-05-15

You could have just put "the NYC art world" in all fields.

chumbucket - 2016-05-15

Balthazar Getty won't ever do anything as good as Lost Highway.

bopeton - 2016-05-15

I kept expecting to see "Written and Directed by M. Night Shamalyan"

Binro the Heretic - 2016-05-15

Nah, he's busy with that "Twin Peaks" knockoff or some damned thing.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-05-15

Well, I have a whole new perspective on the term "hot mess."

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-05-16

So I guess these people are upset about something?

This is exactly the kind of generic trailer you'd expect with this kind of generic title. It's like a "scary movie" parody without the jokes. Or a monster movie with no monster.

I just found it on Netflix:

A bunch of cyberbullying mean girls in a house deep in the woods. Easy pickings for a deranged killer.
One star.

TeenerTot - 2016-05-16

Based on true events!

Like, that there are hashtags?

Gmork - 2016-05-16

It's also sad that you are dumb enough to think my comparison had anything to do with slavery, instead of the obvious conclusion you should have drawn about discrimination butt physical appearance. Only you would actually insinuate that i was directly equating the two in such a fashion. Kind of expected more from you, although I'm not sure why.

Gmork - 2016-05-16

Was reply to Baleen's idiotic post.

yogarfield - 2016-05-16

It's fine to not like fatties.

EvilHomer - 2016-05-16

I'm fine with fatties, so long as they're not entitled to government healthcare. The rest of us shouldn't suffer for your poor dietary choices, Gmork!

baleen - 2016-05-16

this submission came with some totally unsuspected rewards.

baleen - 2016-05-16

unexpected. 1 hour of sleep yay

yogarfield - 2016-05-18

It's also fine to reply to the wrong post because of fat fingers. Love ya, Gmork!
